Students share
passion for education at first STING event
On Saturday March 5, Granite Hills High School
opened their doors for a history-making day. This day was simply
called S.T.I.N.G. (Student Teachers Igniting the Next
Generation). This program was developed from the MIT program
called Splash.
PLAY donates checks to Alpine youth sports
Cheerful
representatives from Alpine's youth sports groups accepted
checks totaling $1,500 on March 8 from Park Land for Alpine
Youth.
Michael LaChappa sentenced to 26 years for attempted
murder
Michael Edward LaChappa was sentenced March 1 to
26 years in prison for his attempted murder convictions stemming
from when he and someone else shot dozens of bullets into an
occupied home on the Viejas Indian Reservation in 2008.

Get free trees on St. Patrick's Day
Sure and is there a finer way to celebrate St. Patrick's
Day than with a wee free tree? The Resource Conservation
District of Greater San Diego County and Fire Safe Council of
San Diego County will hand out free Jeffrey and Ponderosa pine
tree seedlings on Thursday, March 17, in Alpine.

Athletes compete at 28th annual East County Special
Olympics
West Hills High School in Santee, California will once
again be the location for the East County Special Olympics. The
28th annual event host¬ed by the Division 31 Kiwanis of East
County takes place Saturday, March 12, from 9 to 11 a.m.
