The San Diego County Board of Supervisors completed hearings May 18 for the commercial and industrial portion of planning for the county’s general plan update.

The teens, escorted by Fish Camp’s director, Kim Green, were lead through an empty wing of the facility as part of Juveniles Hall’s annual open house.

ALPINE — Peace signs sprouted around the Community Center Park Saturday, as a small but eager group of Alpiners gathered in the shade of the big trees just below the hillside to enjoy picnic lunches and then learn about peace. Inspired by the leaders from the Church of Spiritual Living, they were there to discover how they could help promote world peace.

Three Alpine youths to be feted at Boy Scout Court of Honor
ALPINE — An Eagle Scout Court of Honor will be held Friday, June 3 for three Alpine youths.
Alec Keith Myres, Calvin Thomas Roberts, and Bennett Andrew Myres will be honored at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints building on Tavern Road at 7 p.m. They are members of Troop 142 and all attend Granite Hills High School.

Renaissance Faire offers sleek costumes, period games, jousts 
ALPINE — It’s not every day that someone can walk across the courtyard at Joan MacQueen Middle School and rub elbows with Henry VIII, William Shakespeare and Magellan. But that was just the case Thursday evening, when the seventh graders hosted the school’s annual Renaissance Faire.

Granite Hills divers earn all-CIF finish
Sarah Dunaway was an elite gymnast growing up. She can now call herself an elite diver after placing third at this year’s San Diego Section Division I championships. The Granite Hills senior scored 389.60 points in a competition held May 20 at Mesa College to lead a parade of seven East County divers in the meet.

Eagles women wrap up swim season on a proud note
Granite Hills girls swim coach Cathy Elgas knew her team would be in for a battle at this year’s San Diego Section Division I championship meet when it lined up on the starting blocks against elite North County swimmers who hone their skills in year-round club competition. Elgas had hoped for a top four finish for her squad. However, the competition proved even fiercer than expected as the Eagles finished sixth behind five North County aquatics giants: Torrey Pines, Rancho Bernardo, Carlsbad, Poway and Scripps Ranch.

East County stand-outs headed to state meet
Helix’s Dax Danns and Sharika Thompson, Granite Hills’ Chris Costa and Scott Finley, Monte Vista’s Daniella Thu and Mt. Miguel’s Karlin Stewart will all put their top qualifying marks on the line at this Saturday’s San Diego section track and field championships in the aim of advancing to this year’s state championship meet.

CIF level baseball, softball playoffs get a kick-start
League champions have been crowned, all-league teams are in the process of being selected and Players of the Year are to shortly be announced. What could be next for the Grossmont Conference’s baseball and softball teams?
