VFW Post 9578 November activities
ALPINE — The Alpine VFW Post 9578 will be hosting several events taking place in November.
On Friday, Nov. 11, Veterans Day, there will be a ceremony at the Alpine Cemetery and placing of hand made Poppy wreaths at 11 a.m. Another Ceremony will be held at the Post Wall at noon to be followed by a potluck.
On Thursday, Nov. 24 there will be a complete turkey dinner served at the Post.
There is also football every Sunday and breakfast served as well as music every Friday evening with karaoke and the Commanders fish fry.
Free landscaper and tree trimmer workshop
EL CAJON — The County of San Diego will host a free landscapers and tree trimmers workshop on Thursday, Nov. 10 from 10 a.m. to noon, at the Water Conservation Garden in El Cajon.
A panel of experts will talk about ways to reduce the amount of recyclable materials going into landfills, which saves tipping fee costs, as well as saving water usage and fertilizer costs by grasscycling.

Bloodmobile to visit Granite Hills and Valhalla
EL CAJON — The San Diego Blood Bank bloodmobile will accept blood donations at an open to the public blood drive hosted by Granite Hills High School, 1719 E. Madison Ave., El Cajon on Tuesday, Nov. 15, from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m in the school gym.
There will also be a drive held at Valhalla High School, 1725 Hillsdale Rd., El Cajon on Thursday, Nov. 17, from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the school’s mini-gym.
All donors at the drives will be awarded a new limited edition “Go Give” T-shirt, a two-for-one voucher for a Hornblower Whale Watching Adventure, a San Diego Blood Bank “Lifesaver” red rubber wrist band, a voucher for a free car wash, courtesy of Genie Car Wash and a voucher for Cream Cheese Won Tons, compliments of Pick Up Stix. Donors will also receive a medical history review and mini-physical, which includes blood pressure, pulse and temperature checks.
Anyone who is at least 17 years old, in good health and weighs at least 110 pounds may be eligible to give blood. A good meal is recommended prior to donation.

New Campo-Morena library to open
CAMPO — The long-awaited ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Campo-Morena Village branch library in Campo will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, Nov. 18.
Library service at the current building will cease Saturday, Oct. 29, at 3 p.m. in preparation for the move to new 2,500 square foot library, located at 31356 Highway 94, next to the Alternative Education Center.

Celebrate New Year’s in Alpine
ALPINE — The Alpine Community Center will host a New Year’s celebration and dinner at the community center on New Year’s Eve.
Tickets are $75 per person is purchased prior to Dec. 15, or $100 afterwards. Participants will be treated to food, entertainment, dancing and fun, as well as childcare for an additional charge. Space is limited on a first come, first served basis.

Chamber gearing up for Parade of Lights
ALPINE — Santa will arrive is Alpine on Friday, Dec. 2 at 6:30 p.m., riding down Alpine Boulevard for the 10th Annual Alpine Village Christmas Parade of Lights, hosted by the Alpine Chamber of Commerce.
Everyone is invited to participate in the parade. The only requirement is that the entry be decorated with lights.
Lighted costumes, bikes, small trucks, golf carts, lawn tractors, etc. are encouraged. Participants will meet at the Alpine Woman’s Club parking lot at 6 p.m.
Immediately following the parade Santa and his helpers will light the Alpine Community Christmas tree and join in a holiday sing-along. Then stay for the greatest mountain of snow where sledding will be free.

First annual ACC Fall Tennis Classic
ALPINE — The Alpine Community Center will host the first annual Fall Tennis Classic on Nov. 19 and 20. The matches will begin on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 9 a.m. and finals will be held at 10 a.m.
The competition will be for mixed doubles at an adult intermediate level. Deadline for entry is Nov. 11 and the entrance fee is $12 per player. Rene Toscano, the ACC tennis instructor, will be the tournament director. There will be trophies for the winners and door prizes for the runners-up.

Native plant sale in Alpine
ALPINE — The Alpine Woman's Club will hold its first annual Fall Plant Sale on Saturday, Nov. 19, at 2156 Alpine Blvd.
Plants and cuttings, featuring native plants, will be on sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Proceeds from the sale will benefit the Woman's Club Scholarship Program.

ACC holds Christmas ornament sale
ALPINE — The Alpine Community Center will host a fund-raiser and youth center Christmas decoration and ornament sale on Nov. 19 beginning at 8 a.m.
There will be hundreds of new home and business decorations available for purchase rain or shine, in the ACC parking lot.

ACC holds fall concert to benefit seniors
ALPINE — The Alpine Community Center will host the senior fall concert on Nov. 21 from 1 to 2:30 p.m., sponsored by Alpine Massage Therapy.
Teri Carpentier, a pianist, vocalist and composer, will entertain community center patrons. Tickets for the general public are $2 at the door, seniors may make a donation for their tickets.
Proceeds from the event will be used to fund the senior programs at the community center.

JACUMBA — Mountain Health and Community Services, Inc. will host a holiday celebration dinner on Friday, Dec. 2, 5-8 p.m. at the Jacumba Highland Senior Center and Saturday, Dec. 3, 5-8 p.m. at the Mountain Empire Community Center in Campo.
Participants will be treated to a spaghetti dinner as well as a visit from Santa and a toy for every child. Please bring a canned good and/or a new unwrapped toy to the event. All proceeds will benefit children of East San Diego County.
