New Campo-Morena library to open
CAMPO — The long-awaited ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Campo-Morena Village branch library in Campo will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, Nov. 18.
Library service at the current building will cease Saturday, Oct. 29, at 3 p.m. in preparation for the move to new 2,500 square foot library, located at 31356 Highway 94, next to the Alternative Education Center.

First Fall Tennis Classic runs this weekend
ALPINE — The Alpine Community Center will host the first annual Fall Tennis Classic on Nov. 19 and 20. The matches will begin on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 9 a.m. and finals will be held at 10 a.m.
The competition will be for mixed doubles at an adult intermediate level. Deadline for entry is Nov. 11 and the entrance fee is $12 per player. Rene Toscano, the ACC tennis instructor, will be the tournament director. There will be trophies for the winners and door prizes for the runners-up.

Woman’s Club holds native plant sale
ALPINE — The Alpine Woman's Club will hold its first annual Fall Plant Sale on Saturday, Nov. 19, at 2156 Alpine Blvd.
Plants and cuttings, featuring native plants, will be on sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Proceeds from the sale will benefit the Woman's Club Scholarship Program.

ALPINE — The Alpine Community Center will host a fund-raiser and youth center Christmas decoration and ornament sale on Nov. 19 beginning at 8 a.m.
There will be hundreds of new home and business decorations available for purchase rain or shine, in the ACC parking lot.

ACC holds fall concert to benefit seniors
ALPINE — The Alpine Community Center will host the senior fall concert on Nov. 21 from 1 to 2:30 p.m., sponsored by Alpine Massage Therapy.
Teri Carpentier, a pianist, vocalist and composer, will entertain community center patrons. Tickets for the general public are $2 at the door, seniors may make a donation for their tickets.
Proceeds from the event will be used to fund the senior programs at the community center.
Republican Women to meet
ALPINE — The Alpine/Mountain Empire Republican Women, Federated will hold its monthly meeting on Nov. 21, in the club house of the Alpine Mobile Home Park, 2400 Alpine Blvd.
There will be a coffee social from 10:30 to 11 a.m. followed by the business meeting. The public is invited to attend.
The speaker will be Debbie Jackson, who will discuss her affiliation with the Parkinson’s Disease Association of San Diego as the special events manager for the association. She is also past president of the Alpine Kiwanis Club and was on the staff of the Alzheimer’s Association.

Book fair offered at Joan Mac Queen
ALPINE — Joan Mac Queen Middle School will be holding a book fair beginning Monday, Nov. 21 through Dec. 2 at the school library from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.
A special parent day will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 30. This day is reserved for parents, staff, and community members to enjoy the book fair. Visitors will be treated to a cookie provided by the Bread Basket Restaurant. Students may come to the book fair that day only when accompanied by an adult.

VFW Post 9578 November activities
ALPINE — The Alpine VFW Post 9578 will serve a complete turkey dinner on Thursday, Nov. 24 at the post, 844 Tavern Rd. There is also football every Sunday and breakfast served as well as music every Friday evening with karaoke and the Commanders Fish Fry.

Mother Goose Parade steps off in El Cajon
EL CAJON — The historic 59th Annual Mother Goose Parade will take place on Sunday, Nov. 20 at 12:30 p.m. in El Cajon, commencing on Orange and Main Street.
This year’s parade is confirmed with 22 floats, the most the parade has ever had; 13 bands; five huge balloons similar to the ones you see at the Macy’s Holiday Parade in New York; Wally and Victor, Santa’s talented elves who bring hilarious and unpredictable audience interaction with their holiday cheer; equestrians, impersonators, animated characters, numerous special units, and much more.
Mother Goose is the star of the parade and Bugs Bunny, is the Grand Marshal.

Historical society hosts heritage building tour
ALPINE — Three historic buildings will be open for viewing on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 26 and 27, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., in Alpine.
The Alpine Historical Society offers two 1890's houses for viewing — the Captain Adam Beaty house and the Dr. Sophronia Nichols house, both located at 2116 Tavern Rd. A display on the life and works of Beatrice La Force can now be seen.

Woman’s Club holds ‘Christmas in Alpine’ home tour
ALPINE — The Alpine Woman’s Club will hold a “Christmas in Alpine” home tour on Saturday, Dec. 3, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The tour will take participants to the interiors of five magnificent Alpine homes, decorated for the holidays.
Each home has unique features and all would be worthy of a 'Home Tour' any day, and the festive decorations are just an added bonus.
Proceeds from the event benefit the Alpine Woman's Club Scholarship Fund.
The Alpine Regional Center, at 1620 Alpine Blvd., will have specialty vendors, refreshments, drawings and tour tickets will be available there on the day of the event.

Tis the season to be healthy” holiday dinner
CAMPO — Mountain Health and Community Services, Inc. will host a holiday celebration dinner on Friday, Dec. 2, 5-8 p.m. at the Jacumba Highland Senior Center and Saturday, Dec. 3, 5-8 p.m. at the Mountain Empire Community Center in Campo.
Participants will be treated to a spaghetti dinner as well as a visit from Santa and a toy for every child. Please bring a canned good and/or a new unwrapped toy to the event. All proceeds will benefit children of East San Diego County.

Celebrate the New Year in Alpine
ALPINE — The Alpine Community Center will host a New Year’s celebration and dinner at the community center on New Year’s Eve.
Tickets are $75 per person is purchased prior to Dec. 15, or $100 afterwards. Participants will be treated to food, entertainment, dancing and fun, as well as childcare for an additional charge. Space is limited on a first come, first served basis.

Viking Center holds athletic fund-raiser
EL CAJON — Join men, women and children of all ages as they participate in the Viking Center’s Run, Walk and Roll fund-raiser on Saturday, Nov. 19.
The event will raise money for sensory integration equipment for severely handicapped students.
The day’s activities will begin at the football stadium at Valhalla High School with a fun run at 7:30 a.m. for runners and joggers, followed at 8:30 a.m. by walkers of all levels (wheelchair friendly.)
Registration fee is $15 for participants. Participants raising $50 will receive a free lunch, while those raising $100 will be eligible for a prize drawing. All proceeds from the event will benefit students of the Viking Center directly.
Valhalla High School is located at 1725 Hillsdale Road in El Cajon.
