Rehearsals begin for hilarious ACT Christmas pageant
ALPINE — The recently organized Alpine Community Theater (ACT) Group is currently very busy rehearsing for the December production of
The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, according to director Tim Arends. The performances, to be held at the Alpine Woman’s Club, will be on Dec. 9, 10, 16 and 17 at 7:00 p.m. and on Dec. 11 and 18, at 1 p.m. and are truly a holiday gift to our community.
The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, a classic Christmas story, is a lively play in which the Herdman children show up at the church Christmas Pageant tryouts — because they heard there would be treats — and the townspeople are horrified.
Why? Because they are horrible children.
They steal, burn down buildings, and terrorize the neighborhood. Everyone is bound to love the story of how the Herdmans and their community learn to work together! The show is appropriate for all ages and would be a great holiday outing for the entire family.
The pageant is being produced by Susan Lancaster and Sandy Bennett is handling lighting and sound. The cast includes Kelly Richardson, Tim Arends, Summer Williams, Lucas Williams, Patrick Sutherland, Tori Pool, Ryan Richardson, Ky Richardson, Tommy Zub, Sydnie Ross, Elise Napier, Tannah Zub, David Schwark, Christopher Bowley, Dyani Ybarra, Shelby Wray, Haley Price, Brittani Brown, Nick Napier, Shirley Miller, Samantha Richardson, Marielle Miller, Laurie Schwark, Lauren Ross, Brandi Brown, Ashley Bowley, Sequoia Ybarra, Taryn Perricone, Kenzie Wray, Juliana Miller, Rusty Brown, Payton Saksa, Eva Saksa and Riley Richardson

Woman’s club hosts holiday home tours
ALPINE — Ring in the holiday season by visiting five beautiful Alpine homes, all elaborately decorated for Christmas, on the self-guided tour sponsored by the Alpine Woman’s Club
on Dec. 3 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. All the houses boast fabulous views and each one features a different style of décor.
Look for a nine foot tree festooned in red velvet, a collection of Victorian dolls and museum quality dresses, an Italian style villa right out of Tuscany, a brand new state-of-the art kitchen with custom granite counter tops, or the view of a private beach on Palo Verde Lake from the home’s deck.
Ticketholders may visit the houses in any order, as they are numbered on the tickets to help locate them. The organizers say, "Just follow the trees," meaning a series of three-foot high wooden Christmas tree signs marking the route.
Home No. 1, owned by Emil and Renee Zaccaro, is perched high above the Palo Verde Lake, so guests will be invited to stroll the back deck and enjoy the view of the lake and private beach. The Zaccaros like furnishings in soft natural tones that blend with the outdoor surroundings.
The magnificent Italian villa of Bob and Janie Thomas, has a view of the lake from every window. Stepping into the foyer of this No. 2 home, the guests will be amazed by an unexpected view framed by a huge arch window. The elaborate holiday decorations accent the elegance of the house.
There’s a huge Christmas wreath on the front portico of the No. 3 home in the gated community of Rancho Palo Verde. Kevin and Donna Ellis have a great view from their foyer, and like to brag about the spacious master suite. Above all, peek in the master bath and don’t miss that gorgeous Christmas tree done in red velvet.
The Victorian style No. 4 home is in Coronado Gate, high enough to offer a spectacular view, sometimes almost to the ocean. Bob and Sue Wheelington have a dream game room but the special delight here is their collection of Victorian dolls, and dresses artistically displayed to complement the rest of the furnishings. Even their Christmas trees are Victorian.
Another gorgeous hilltop view is the reward of a visit to house No. 5, owned by Renae Wilson and Emma Byrd. This cozy home has some lovely artwork and a new state-of-the-art kitchen, with its unique new features. The homeowners love to prepare gourmet menus there for their guests.
Last stop is the Alpine Regional Center, 1620 Alpine Boulevard, for complimentary refreshments and a display of the prizes for the opportunity drawing at 3:30 p.m.
Tour tickets, at $25, are available by calling Carol Walker at 445 4024 or Ann Hill, 445 4235 – or, on the day of the tour, at the Regional Center from 9 a.m. on.
Proceeds from this benefit event go to support the Woman’s Club Scholarship Fund, which awards scholarships each June to worthy local students bound for college.
