Miracle Mile of Quarters Golf Tournament
EL CAJON — The 2005 Miracle Mile of Quarters Golf Tournament will take place Nov. 4 at the Singing Hills Golf Club in El Cajon.
Registration begins at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start at 10:30 a.m. Lunch and drinks will be served all day with cocktails at 5 p.m. The evening will end with dinner and a live auction at 6 p.m.
First Annual Alpine Arts Festival
ALPINE — The first annual Alpine Art Festival will take place Saturday, Nov. 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 2612 Alpine Blvd.
Participants will be able to view art exhibits, including works from local artists ad students, join in hands-on art projects and enjoy food, raffles and live entertainment. Also during the day groups will be creating an Alpine Community Mosaic Mural. All those interested in taking part should bring something to add to the mural. Objects must fit in the palm of your hand.

Campo community craft fair
CAMPO — A craft fair will take place in Campo at the Mountain Health Community Center, 976 Sheridan Road, on Saturday, Nov. 5 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
There will be many handcrafted items, homemade treats, holiday gifts and other crafts available for purchse. All of the items are made by local women in the Campo/Lake Morena area. There will also be gently used books for sale.
All proceeds from the fair will benefit to new Campo/Lake Morena library.
D.C. Kids host holiday bazaar
ALPINE — The D.C. Kids group will be hosting a Holiday Shopping Bazaar in the Alpine Elementary School auditorium on Thursday, Nov. 10 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m..
There will be more that 10 different vendors who have agreed to donate a portion of their sales to the D.C. Kids group to help fund the group’s yearly trip to Washington D.C.

Free landscaper and tree trimmer workshop
EL CAJON — The County of San Diego will host a free landscapers and tree trimmers workshop on Thursday, Nov. 10 from 10 a.m. to noon, at the Water Conservation Garden in El Cajon.
A panel of experts will talk about ways to reduce the amount of recyclable materials going into landfills, which saves tipping fee costs, as well as saving water usage and fertilizer costs by grasscycling.

Bloodmobile at Granite Hills and Valhalla
EL CAJON — The San Diego Blood Bank bloodmobile will accept blood donations at an open to the public blood drive hosted by Granite Hills High School, 1719 E. Madison Ave., El Cajon on Tuesday, Nov. 15, from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m in the school gym.
There will also be a drive held at Valhalla High School, 1725 Hillsdale Rd., El Cajon on Thursday, Nov. 17, from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the school’s mini-gym.
Anyone who is at least 17 years old, in good health and weighs at least 110 pounds may be eligible to give blood. A good meal is recommended prior to donation.

The Alpine Sun co-hosts airport forum
ALPINE — A town hall event co-hosted by the San Diego Airport Authority and The Alpine Sun, will take place Nov. 17 at 6 p.m. at the Alpine Community Center. Airport authority officials will hear comments and answer questions posed by the public.
This event will include a presentation covering the latest on the search for an airport solution and an audience question session where attendees will get the chance to have their questions addressed directly by airport authority staff.
The Alpine event will be moderated by Alpine Planning Group member Joe Forlenza, who also writes a column, Forlenza’s Forum, exclusively for The Alpine Sun.
Another upcoming town hall event is scheduled for Nov. 10 in Fallbrook.
23rd Annual Descanso Antique Sale
DESCANSO — The Mountain Empire Collector’s Club will present the 23rd annual Descanso Antique Sale on Nov. 5 and 6, at the Descanso town hall, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Throughout the year the community has gathered antiques and collectibles for this event. There will be lots of refinished furniture, small country primitives, fancy glassware, railroad and mining items, and much more.

Alpine High School Citizens Committee to meet
ALPINE — The next public meeting of the Alpine High School Citizens Committee will be held Monday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. at the Alpine Community Center, 1830 Alpine Blvd.
The Grossmont Union High School District Board recently authorized retaining a consultant to select a site for a twelfth high school. GUHSD Superintendent Terry Ryan will attend the meeting to explain what plans are being made to build the new high school in Alpine.
VFW Post 9578 November activities
ALPINE — The Alpine VFW Post 9578 will be hosting several events taking place in November.
The auxiliary meeting will take place Nov. 5 at 9 a.m. The Post meeting will be held Nov. 12 at 11 a.m.
On Friday, Nov. 11, Veterans Day, there will be a ceremony at the Alpine Cemetery and placing of hand made Poppy wreaths at 11 a.m. Another Ceremony will be held at the Post Wall at noon to be followed by a potluck.
On Thursday, Nov. 24 there will be a complete turkey dinner served at the Post.
There is also football every Sunday and breakfast served as well as music every Friday evening with karaoke and the Commanders fish fry.
New Campo-Morena library to open
CAMPO — The long-awaited ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Campo-Morena Village branch library in Campo will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, Nov. 18.
Library service at the current building will cease Saturday, Oct. 29, at 3 p.m. in preparation for the move to new 2,500 square foot library, located at 31356 Highway 94, next to the Alternative Education Center.
During the closure, the Mobile Library will provide interim bookmobile service on Monday, Nov. 7, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot of the new library.

To get to the site of the grand opening of the new library, take I-8 east toward El Centro.
Take the Buckman Springs Road exit and turn right. Turn right on Highway 94. The library is located at 31360 Highway 94, Campo, on the right hand side of the road.
