ALPINE — Two pageants last Sunday produced a lot of smiles and of course a few stray tears to brush away after the judges chose the new Little Miss Alpine 2005 and Junior Miss Alpine 2005 at a ceremony in the Alpine Community Center.
At the Little Miss pageant, 10 very excited little girls, six- to eight-years-old, wearing their prettiest party dresses, were each rewarded with shiny small tiaras and big bouquets. The new queen, Kaley Price, daughter of Mark and Pattie Price earned a sparkly crown, a white satin banner, an armload of red roses, a trophy half as tall as she is, a $100 savings bond, a crown charm necklace and a portrait session with photographer Andy King.

After winning the Little Miss Alpine
title the first thing Haley Price did was call her dad
Mark on her cell phone. |
Kaley, a poised and well spoken young lady modeling a gown with a white satin bodice and a fluffy net skirt, also won the Miss Congeniality title. Sarah Shafer was first runner up, with Macy Augustus named second runner-up and also Miss Photogenic. Sierra Wilborn was third runner-up. Completing the list of contestants were Janna Graham, Autumn Brown, Ashley Wiley, Erin Graham, Kayla Kruel, Ali Nygaard.
With Miss Teen Alpine 2005 Tara McLauchlan acting as mistress of ceremonies, the contestants did a choreographed dance for the assembled parents, grandparents and well-wishers wearing their favorite sportswear. After changing into party frocks, each one was escorted onstage by a pair of junior size escorts, Bryan and Alex Osborn, twin sons of the pageant director, Theresa Osborne. Each girl answered a question posed by Amanda Hay, Little Miss Alpine 2004. before making a final stroll around the stage in front of the judges.
The second pageant, two hours later, featured six young ladies, from nine to 12 years of age, competing for the title of Junior Miss Alpine. They, too, performed a dance, wore several outfits for the judges to admire, and answered questions offered by last year’s winner, Karli Jennings.
The new Junior Miss Alpine 2005 is Sierra Adam who, like Kaley Price, is also Miss Congeniality. Amanda Hay, last year’s Little Miss Alpine, was the first runner-up and Grace Cookson was chosen second runner-up. The queens and their courts in both contests will be riding in the Viejas Day parade on Oct. 1.
The winners from the 2004 contest for Miss Alpine and Miss Teen Alpine, along with their courts, all wearing their sashes and crowns, along with Kristen Bensen, the assistant pageant director, did yeoman duty, assisting, comforting and advising the younger participants.
