Residents wring road elimination from APG
A group of about 20 residents living in the area of Bridle Run and Bullard Lane at the west end of Alpine, were at the Alpine Planning Group meeting held last Thursday, Sept. 22, to argue against a new road in their neighborhood — and they got what they came for. 

Highway dangers focus for locals, planners, CHP 
It was a packed house at the latest meeting of the Campo/Lake Morena Community Planning Group, as residents and board members filled the community center building in Campo to discuss the problem of wrong-way drivers in the Back Country. Four California Highway Patrol officers were also at the meeting to answer questions and explain how they are trying to solve the problem.

Letters pour in to Cedar Fire judge and he won’t visit site 
The judge who suggested he visit the exact spot where a man says he started the Cedar Fire has reconsidered and said he probably will not tour the isolated area before sentencing the arsonist in the state's worst wildfire.

Location of ‘immigrant’ shooting still unclear

The location of a border shooting last Wednesday morning, Sept. 21, is still in doubt, according to deputies who were called to the end of Jewell Valley Road to investigate.

Rural fire gets $100,000 for new station 
Shortly after the Cedar Fire was brought under control, the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation entrusted the Kiwanis Club of Alpine with the sum of $100,000 to be used toward the rebuilding of the Harbison Canyon fire station lost to the fire.

On Oct. 1, at 6 p.m., a professional wrestling card will be held on the softball field at the Alpine Community Center, 1830 Alpine Blvd., Alpine. This will be no ordinary pro wrestling program because it pits two legends against each other in the two-out-of-three falls main event, when The Genius (The World’s Smartest Man) and Greg “The Hammer” Valentine.

Sunday pageant brings smiles for all
Two pageants last Sunday produced a lot of smiles and of course a few stray tears to brush away after the judges chose the new Little Miss Alpine 2005 and Junior Miss Alpine 2005 at a ceremony in the Alpine Community Center. 

Low power stations big hit in Alpine, Potrero 
Alpine now has it’s own radio station. KRLY, known as Lite 107.9, is broadcasting from new studios at 2065 Arnold Way. The station covers Alpine, Blossom Valley, parts of Lakeside and most of Santee.  

Browning gets 40 to life in murder
A 61-year-old Flinn Springs man was sentenced Sept. 21 to 40 years-to-life in state prison for killing a neighbor with whom he had argued earlier.

Granite beats Chula Vista — Mtn. Empire unable to score against Santana 
After advancing to last year’s San Diego Section Division II semifinals against Helix, losing in overtime for the right to move on to Qualcomm Stadium to play for the division title, the 2004 high school football season will be remembered as one of achievement for the Grossmont Foothillers. After finally scoring the team’s first victory of the 2005 season — 42-7 at Patrick Henry — on Sept. 23, the Hillers are now looking forward to making something of this season as well.
