Remote site unworkable, according to airport analysis  
Back Country residents wait, with bated breath, for an announcement from the San Diego Regional Airport Authority regarding its choice for a new international airport site. Now, in the final stages of site analysis, which includes a 3,500-acre site in Boulevard, authority consultants are realizing that distance is going to play a huge factor in the decision.  

Private charter school to open in Alpine 
Alpine Academy is a newly announced public school facility that will offer middle school and high school classes to the students of Alpine. This academy is a part of the Julian Charter School, which has been in operation for the last eight years and has just recently started branching out by offering community classrooms, such as the Pine Valley Academy, which opened last year. 

Children’s Village EIR ready for public comment
The public review period has begun for a proposed 118-acre project in the Campo area. The 45-day public comment phase of the environmental impact report for “A Children’s Village,” will run through June 5. 

Alpine bank robber released early

A young Alpine man who committed a bank robbery where he used to work was released from jail April 19 after spending six-and-a-half months behind bars, including 90 days in a diagnostic study. 

Annual garden tours soothe eye and soul
People who love gardening have a treat waiting for them May 5, 6 and 7. Make that six treats — the six private gardens on the Sage & Songbirds Festival Garden Tour, the highlight of “Wild Wings and Garden Things, the theme of the S & S event, now in its ninth year.
 
School lunch price hike approved for AUSD 
The Alpine Union School District Board of Trustees, at its April 19 meeting at Boulder Oaks Elementary, reviewed an increase in school lunch prices, monthly API reports, and the potential impacts of a new charter school, due to open this September in Alpine.

California Minutemen and volunteers to build border fence this weekend
California Minutemen and interested volunteers will gather in Boulevard this Saturday, April 29, for the “Come Build the Fence” project. Participants will meet at Outdoor World RV Park at 8 a.m. and will travel south to a portion of the California/Mexico border where the fence is either in disrepair or not existent.
