GUHSD to release results of high school survey  
Grossmont Union High School District has promised to include an agenda item for its next regularly scheduled governing board meeting, Sept. 14, to announce the results of the Twelfth High School Survey that was recently conducted online.  

Local reps grilled at chamber dinner 
The Alpine Chamber of Commerce brought political leaders to Viejas Casino’s Dreamcatcher Lounge to discuss East County matters for the eighth annual Evening with your Representatives. Of major focus were the Horse Fire, fire protection improvements, plans for a local high school, challenges of property taxes and development and spending in districts by officials representing police, high schools, colleges, fire and water resources.

OK, I confess — There was no naked woman on horseback pulling a Lady Godiva act in Alpine. But now that I have your attention, I want to talk to you about something important – fire prevention and safety. 

Alpine Kiwanis member celebrates golden anniversary with local group

The Kiwanis Club of Alpine honored a special member last Saturday, Aug. 5, at their regularly scheduled meeting. Member Bob Wilson was honored by the club for his 50 years of service to the club and the community of Alpine. 

SANDAG board hears report on Tribal Summit, approves next steps
During its Aug. 4 meeting the San Diego Association of Governments board heard a report on the 2006 San Diego Regional Tribal Summit, which took place March 10 at the Pala Indian Reservation. After hearing the report the SANDAG board unanimously approved a series of proposed follow-up items.
 
AYSO kicks off another season with fund-raising event 
The Alpine Youth Soccer Organization held a fund-raiser last Saturday, Aug. 5, at Creekside Early Learning Center. The event was well attended and there were lots of activities to keep families entertained.

Local church celebrates first female acolyte in 30-year history
On Sunday, July 23, seven-year-old Sophie Maio, granddaughter of church member, Marion Roberts, became the first female acolyte in the 30-year history of Christ the King Episcopal Church.

New Presbyterian fellowship graces Alpine
The town recently had an unusual opportunity to meet the pastor of Alpine’s newest church, Grace Fellowship, a Presbyterian body in the spirit of the reformation.

Nearby Wal-Mart downsizing fabrics and textile department
Wal-Mart, on Camino Canada in El Cajon, is currently going through a major remodel. According to Wal-Mart Customer Service, this is to enhance the customer’s experience while in their facility. Wal-mart’s goal is to revamp the store to emulate a “model superstore”, creating a customer friendly environment that allows for the same format in most if not all Wal-Mart stores.
