Alpine man to represent county on Regional Airport Authority  
     Alpine resident Bob Watkins is the County of San Diego’s new representative on the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority. Sheriff Bill Kolender recommended Watkins for the four-year term, which expires on Dec. 15, 2010. The San Diego County Board of Supervisors confirmed the appointment. Smoking in public parks could soon bring a fine, after San Diego supervisors directed county staff to develop a board policy banning smokers from lighting up. Smuggler who crashed head-on with CHP gets 20 years  
     A smuggler of both illegal aliens and marijuana, who crashed head-on into a California Highway Patrol vehicle near Pine Valley, has been sentenced to nearly 20 years in federal prison, a term praised by local law enforcement groups since it is longer than most sentences.
