ALPINE — Children are welcome to sit in on a special Story
Time being held at the Alpine Library Friends Association
Bookstore on the second and fourth Saturday of every month at
1 p.m.
ALFA member Christine Connell will read stories
appropriate for pre-school and elementary school children.
This event is free for all those interested.
The ALFA bookstore is located in the Alpine Creek Town
Center, 1347 Tavern Road, in the old Hallmark Store.

organizing a writing group for teens. If you are a local

Seniors can take advantage of
food distribution
BACK COUNTRY — Seniors living in the Back Country who are
60 years of age of older can take advantage of a free food
service program, which delivers 40-pound boxes of food to
local specific points in the area.
Residents are currently trying to get the word out and
collect information about senior in the area who would like to
receive a food box. The current pick-up point in the
Campo/Lake Morena area is at Lake Morena Village.

Traditions at ECPAC
EL CAJON — The 14th annual Christmas Traditions and
Musical Spectacular will return to the East County Performing
Arts Center for the 2006 production bringing all the
traditional favorites to the stage. It is a colorful family
event filled with music, dance and drama, bringing Christmas
traditions to life on stage and includes performers from
Alpine.
Performances are from December 8-23 at The East County
Performing Arts Center, 210 E. Main Street in El Cajon.
Special performances are Tuesday, Dec. 12, 9:15 a.m. and 11:45
a.m. All seats are $11.

CTN looking for local content
SAN DIEGO — The
County is accepting applications for grants that encourage
non-profit and educational institutions to produce quality and
timely half-hour video productions. Five $10,000 grants will
be awarded through the Local Government Programming Video
Grant Program, and finished videos will be aired on CTN, Cox
channel 19, and Time Warner Channel 22.

Holiday party toy drive
ALPINE — Dec. 13 from 6 to 9 p.m., Stoney and Rob’s
Annual Holiday Party Toy Drive and Auction will be held at the
Dream Catcher at Viejas. Bring in a new unwrapped gift for a
child ages 10 – 14 and participate in a live auction, silent
auction, and hors d’oeuvres.
Pony registration is beginning
ALPINE — Registration time is here for the 2007
Alpine/Viejas Pony Baseball season. The first, early
registration will take place on Saturday, Dec. 9 from 10 a.m.
to 2 p.m. at the Shadow Hill Elementary School Auditorium. The
early registration fee is $150.
Other registration dates will be Saturday, Jan. 6 from 10
a.m. to 2 p.m. and Wednesday, Jan. 10 from 6 to 8 p.m., at the
same location. Registration fees for these dates will be $175.
Try-out dates will be held at the Pony Field behind Shadow
Hills on Jan. 27 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Feb. 3 from 10
a.m. to noon. Late registration at try-outs will cost $195.
There are open positions within the league for team
managers, coaches and the Pony Board. The league is also
looking for sponsors and a donation of a container to store
equipment.

Campo family nights
CAMPO — The
Mountain Empire Collaborative is sponsoring Campo Family Night
at the Mountain Empire Community Center from 6 to 8:30 p.m.
Attendees will have a chance to meet their neighbors, have

will be on Fridays, Jan. 26, Feb. 23, March 30, April 27 and

concert
ALPINE — The Alpine Chorale will be hosting its annual
Family and Friends Holiday Concert on Saturday, Dec. 16 at 2

Arts and crafts camp
ALPINE — Southern California Center for Youth, Nature
and the Arts Inc. is presenting Winter Break Arts and Crafts
Camp where children will learn drawing and watercolor
techniques, make holiday gifts and decorations, decorate a
quilting square for our class quilt, and enjoy songs,
friendship and fun.
The week-long session will be at Alpine Elementary
School room 18, on Dec. 18-22, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Registration costs $95 and includes all supplies, shirt

AGSA enrollment coming up
ALPINE — Alpine
Girls Softball will be enrolling on Dec. 9, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
at Boulder Oaks Elementary School for the early bird special
of $70. There will also be registration on Jan. 4, 6 p.m. to 8
p.m. and Jan. 6, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Boulder Oaks for $80.
Try-outs will be Saturday, Jan. 13, at Joan Mac Queen
Middle School. There will be a late registration after Jan.
20, to be announced for $125. For ages six years and under,
the registration fee is only $35.

The 10th annual
Gift Bag Drive begins
ALPINE — The 10th annual Gift Drive is now underway,
looking for donations of clothes, food and children’s goods.
Brown bags are being distributed around town for residents to
fill with non-perishable food items, disposable diapers, kid’s
videos, blankets, backpacks, clothes, toys and art supplies.
Over 9,000 bags are given away to over 26 churches and
outreach centers and have brokered thousands of dollars in
donations to community organizations helping the hungry,
assisting military families and needy children.

Marines collect Toys for Tots
ALPINE — As always, the U.S. Marine Corps is running its
holiday Toys for Tots drive this season.
In Alpine, donations of new toys for children can be
dropped off at On Line Bookkeeping & Tax Service, located at
2065 Arnold Way, suite 103. The hours of operation are Monday
through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Local 4-H looking for more Amigos
ALPINE — The
Alpine Amigos 4-H is looking for interested youth between the
ages of five and 19 to join the club.
Would you love to learn more about farm animals and
crafts? Come see what 4-H is all about. General Meetings are

Little League registration
beginning
ALPINE — Alpine American Little League will be having
registration at Shadow Hills Elementary auditorium on the
following dates: Dec. 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Dec. 12
from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. for $100; Jan. 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
and Jan. 10 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. for $110.
Later registration will only be on try-out dates for
$115 and will be closed after Feb. 3. Fee provides players
with a great season of baseball, jersey, baseball pants, hat,
a copy of the Dugout Dirt, pictures, and all divisions will
receive a trophy. There is no snack bar duty or buyout this
year.
Please bring a copy of the player’s birth certificate
and two forms of proof of address. Players must be between
five and 12 and reside within the boundaries of Alpine
American Little League.
Voice of democracy essay contest
ALPINE — The VFW
is having a VFW Voice of Democracy Contest, for a grand prize
of a $30,000 scholarship along with many others. Contestants
are to write a 3 to 5 minute national patriotic speech
expressing their interpretation of freedom’s challenge. The
competition is open to ninth through 12th graders.

Snow will fall at Viejas this
weekend
ALPINE — Viejas will host its annual Snow Festival next
weekend, from 4 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9. More than two
tons of snow will be brought in to the courtyard of the outlet
center for the event.
The snowy holiday celebration will take place by Viejas
Outlet Center’s 87-foot-tall Holiday Tree with an area for
snow play, sledding, singing and visits with Santa Claus and
Crystal, The Ice Princess. The event is free but visitors are
encouraged to bring an unwrapped toy or canned food item for
the Salvation Army’s East County Food and Toy Drive.
In addition to the Snow Festival, visitors can enjoy a
special holiday performance of the “Legend of the Ice
Princess” at 7:30 p.m.
From Dec. 16-24, visitors can also share a smile and a
free photo with Santa Claus by the Viejas Holiday Tree. Bring
your own camera and the Viejas staff will take the photo for
free. Santa Claus is available for photos each day from noon
to 7 p.m.
Bloodmobile will make stop at AES
ALPINE — The San Diego Blood Bank bloodmobile will accept
blood donations at an open to the public blood drive hosted by
Alpine Kiwanis at Alpine Elementary School, 1850 Alpine Blvd.,
on Saturday, Dec. 9, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The bloodmobile
will be parked in the parking lot.
All donors at this drive will be awarded a voucher for a
free Whale Watching Trip donated by Helgren’s Oceanside
Sportfishing & Islandia Sportfishing. Anyone who is at least
17 years old, in good health and weighs at least 110 pounds
may be eligible to give blood. A good meal is recommended
prior to donation.

ACC hosts line dancing Christmas
party
ALPINE — The Alpine Community Center will host a Country
line Dancing Christmas Party on Thursday, Dec. 14 from 6:30 to
10 p.m. at the center, 1830 Alpine Blvd.
The evening will be a potluck with the ACC providing entrees
and participants invited to bring side dishes and desserts to
the dinner. Cash bar will also be available.
Tickets are $12 general admission, and $10 for seniors and ACC

Bicycle raffle at Submarina
ALPINE — The Submarina in Alpine is giving away four
bicycles for Christmas. Two lucky boys and two lucky girls
will win brand new Huffy bicycles, and the age groups are 4-7
and 7-12. The deadline for the raffle is Dec. 21 at 8 p.m.,
and the drawing will be held on the 22 at noon. You do not

Christ the King hosts Christmas
Camp
ALPINE — Christ the King Episcopal Church will host a
Christmas Camp for kids Monday, Dec. 18th to Friday, Dec. 22
from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Children ages 6-10 will experience creativity with
crafts, stories, Christmas carols, fun games and meet new
friends. A snack is provided. This is a Christian-themed
program which is open to the community and offered by the
Youth Ministry of Christ the King Episcopal Church.

cruise schedule with four and five day voyages to Mexico. The
2,052 passenger fun ship, Elation will depart on Thursdays for
