At approximately 3:20 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 26, Sheriff's
deputy Enrique Diaz, a 20 year veteran of the San Diego
Sheriff's Department, shot and killed a suspect that attacked
him with his own baton.

Alpine Planning Group seats new chairman, officers
The Alpine Planning Group seated new officers at its Jan. 26
meeting. Long time chairman of the group, Mark Price, stepped
down from the position, and Jim Mowry, unanimously, was seated
at the helm
GUHSD votes to study possibility of districtwide charter
At the Jan. 18 meeting of the Grossmont Union High School
District board of trustees, members voted to move forward with
the proposal, made by Ron Nehring, to study the possibility of
moving the entire district to a charter system.
Pierce legacy was permanent change in Alpine landscape and
culture
Alpine remembers Alpine developer Auren Pierce, who
died Dec. 19 at the age of 82.
Back Country Land Trust celebrates 15 years, 4,946
acres
Saturday, Feb. 4, has been officially declared by the
County Board of Supervisors, as "Back Country Land Trust
Day," in celebration of the organization's anniversary.
