APG chooses Easterling for vacant seat 
There was no shouting, and language was, for the most part, civil, but Tuesday's special meeting of the Alpine Planning Group was still rife with tension, as the group majority ultimately chose Jim Easterling to fill the seat left vacant in October by Scott Lamb.  

BOS defies voters, grand jury, pot laws 
Medical marijuana advocates rallied in front of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors last week, urging the supervisors to drop their plans for a lawsuit challenging the state law that allows marijuana use with a doctor's approval.

From schools to private homes: small local churches find unique meeting places
On any Sunday morning Alpine churchgoers worship in a variety of locations besides the usual church sanctuaries. Some gather in public school auditoriums; others meet in the recreation clubrooms of condo and mobile home areas. Still other small groups gather in homes because it is so difficult to find available locations.

Business: New signs a step toward shining up shopping center 
Three handsome new signs have blossomed at the entrances to what is familiarly known as the Alpine Creek Shopping Center. The signs, however, announce that it is now Alpine Creek Town Center.
