Kiwanis
holds Youth Olympics Jan. 21
ALPINE
— The Kiwanis Club of Alpine will hold its annual Youth
Olympics on Saturday, Jan. 21, at Alpine Elementary School.
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.
with opening ceremonies at 9 a.m. Magician Amazing Dana will
perform at 10:30 a.m. aand medal presentations will be made
from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The 12 events available include,
basketball dribble, basketball free throw, long jump, rope
skipping, pull-ups, soccer ball dribble, softball throw,
bicycle gymkhana, sit ups and 20, 40 and 60 meter races.
In case of rain, the event
will be rescheduled for Saturday, Jan. 28. For more

Eltinge
is topic at Historical Society lunch
The
Alpine Historical Society will host a potluch luncheon at 1
p.m., and special program Sunday, Jan. 22, at the
Alpine Woman's Club, 2156 Alpine Blvd.
Speaker, Susan Walter, will discuss
the life of female impersonator and Alpine resident, Julian
Eltinge (1881-1941). Susan has discovered many in depth
stories about his life that she will share. The silent film,
Madame Behave, starring Julian Eltinge will be shown.

Health to host blood drive
Mountain Health will host a blood drive at Alpine Family
Medicine, 1620 Alpine Blvd., at 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on
Thursday, March 2.

Time
to register for Miss Alpine pageant
ALPINE — An orientation meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m.,
Wednesday, Jan. 25, for girls between the ages of 14
and 24, who are interested in competing in the 2006 Miss
Alpine and Miss Teen Alpine pageants.
The orientation will be held at the
Alpine Community Center and application packets may be
picked up there now, until the event.
The pageant itself will be held at
the Dreamcatcher Lounge in the Viejas Casino and Turf club
on March 13.

Granite
Hills surfers hold fund-raiser
EL
CAJON — The Granite Hills High School Surf Club will hold
its annual awards banquet and silent auction fund-raiser on
Feb. 2.
The Granite Hills surfers are
not a school sponsored club, due to lack of funding, and
rely solely on the annual silent auction to bring in the
money necessary to keep the program going. Money raised will
help the team buy surfing-related items.

Generator
celebration planned
CAMPO
— Mountain Health and Community Services will hold an
unveiling ceremony at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 8, to
celebrate acquisition of its new generator.
The generator will power its Campo
health care center in the event of a disaster and the party
will be held at the facility, located at 31115 Highway 94
