King Kong rules this Saturday
night at Descanso branch library
DESCANSO — This weekend, the Descanso branch of the San Diego County Library, will air the original version of the classic film King Kong, as a free special program.
The ageless thriller will be presented uncut and uninterrupted on a large screen and will be preceded by a talk on the making of the film, and on its creators, delivered by by Eric Beheim

Alpine Viejas Pony Baseball holds registration this
month
ALPINE – The Alpine Viejas Pony League will hold registrations at the Shadow Hills Auditorium, 8770 Harbison Canyon Road during the week of Jan. 7.
Registration times are as follows: Saturday, Jan. 7, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Tuesday, Jan. 10, 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.; Thursday, Jan. 12, 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.; and Saturday, Jan. 14, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The fee is $175 per player and covers costs for jerseys, hats, copies of the Pony Express, umpire fees, game balls, and team/individual pictures.
Players must be at least 13 years old before Aug. 1, 2006, and may not be older than 14 before May 1, 2006.
Players must reside within the league boundary, which includes Crest and Rios Canyon.
A copy of the player's birth certificate and two forms of proof of residence are required.

for fire station
ALPINE — The Alpine Fire Protection District is seeking history-related items with which to decorate the community’s new fire station, which is scheduled to open its doors in mid-February.
Anyone with photos or fire department related items or antiques for donation should contact Chip Howell at the fire hall, 445-2635.
Photos can be copied then returned to owners.
Local Cub Scouts recycle Christmas trees
ALPINE — Alpine Cub Scout Pack 105 will host its eighth annual Christmas tree recycling drive on Jan. 7.
The Scouts have begun canvassing around Alpine to organize tree pick-up on Jan. 7 as well as collect donations which will benefit Pack 105. Trees will be collected and then mulched in the old ranch area. Mulch will then be distributed free of charge to haul away. Please ensure that all tinsel is removed. No flocked trees are permitted.
Trees may be also be dropped off at the Alpine Community Center, 1830 Alpine Blvd., between 7 and 11 a.m., on Jan. 7. Cash donations are also appreciated.

Preschool registration open in Boulevard
BOULEVARD — Boulevard State Preschool, located at the Clover Flat Elementary School, is accepting applications for the 2006 spring semester.
The preschool serves children between the ages of 3 and 5 years
old and whose families either live or work in California. It has openings for all income levels and families residing in the Mountain Empire Unified School District area are given first priority for placement.
Children enrolling for the spring semester must be at least three years of age as of Dec. 2, 2005.

Kiwanis holds Youth Olympics Jan. 21
ALPINE — The Kiwanis Club of Alpine will hold its annual Youth Olympics on Saturday, Jan. 21, at Alpine Elementary School.
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. with opening ceremonies at 9 a.m. Magician Amazing Dana will perform at 10:30 a.m. aand medal presentations will be made from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The 12 events available include, basketball dribble, basketball free throw, long jump, rope skipping, pull-ups, soccer ball dribble, softball throw, bicycle gymkhana, sit ups and 20, 40 and 60 meter races.

Granite Hills surfers host club fund-raiser
EL CAJON — The Granite Hills High School Surf Club will hold its annual awards banquet and silent auction fund-raiser on Feb. 2.
The Granite Hills surfers are not a school sponsored club, due to lack of funding, and rely solely on the annual silent auction to bring in the money necessary to keep the program going. Money raised will help the team buy surfing-related items.
