History mural to be unveiled in Campo
     CAMPO — The Campo Morena Village Branch of the San Diego County Library will host an open house on Saturday, June 17 from 10 a.m. to noon to celebrate a mural by San Diego artist Mona Mills depicting the region’s rich culture and history.
     Mills, who has painted 45 other murals for public buildings, prided herself on accurately representing the forebears of rural San Diego. Depicted in the four-wall mural is a golden eagle, forest landscapes, local mountain tribes like the Kumeyaay Indians, Mexican vaqueros, Anglo cowboys and even Buffalo Soldiers, an African-American elite cavalry stationed at Camp Lockett from 1866 to WWII.

Visit ‘Art in its Natural Habitat’
     ALPINE — The Alpine Artists Association will hold an art show, from June 17 through July 2 at the Alpine Library Friends Association bookstore in the Alpine Creek Shopping Center. 
     The show, entitled Artists in Wright's Field; Art in its Natural Habitat, will showcase art inspired by the beauty of Wright's Field, with paintings, poetry, and photographs. It will include an artist’s reception, 4 to 6 p.m., Saturday, June 17.

Mind, Body, Soul health fair is June 17
     ALPINE — The first annual Mind, Body and Soul Health Fair will be held Saturday, June 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Wild West Athletic Club parking lot, 2710 Alpine Blvd.
     Sponsorship and vendor booth rental space is available starting at $25.

     ALPINE  — The Alpine Writer’s Guild is in the process of organizing a writing group for teens. If you are a local teenager and have an interest in writing, please contact Lillian Fisher at 445-5537.


Crown Hills holds 4th of July parade
     ALPINE — Patriotism and small town community spirit will be the theme of Alpine’s 9th Annual Independence Day Parade, hosted by the homeowners of Crown Hills with help from the Alpine Kiwanis Club.
     The family-friendly event will kick off at noon with the flyover of four German biplanes and include colorful floats, equestrian units, llamas, ponies, antique cars and motorcycles, a monster truck and live music.
     All children are encouraged to decorate themselves, their dogs, bikes, skateboards or even their parents. An adult must accompany each group of kids. Red, white and blue costumes are always a welcome addition. The parade travels along Gentian Way and Victoria Park Terrace. Those marching in the festivities must arrive at 11 a.m. for staging. Parking will be on Victoria Park Terrace only.

Celebrate Father’s Day with Italian buffet
     ALPINE — Christ The King Episcopal Church will hold an Italian night on Saturday, June 17, at 5:30 p.m.
     Tickets for the dinner are $15, which includes an Italian buffet dinner including beverage and desert. Kids get in for free. There will also be live entertainment, door prizes and an auction.

Hoedown keeps the pounds down
     ALPINE — For those struggling with the newest abdominal roller, protein shake or crash diet, consider a simple, fun and healthy alternative. Believe it or not, country line dancing in the park is the latest fad in exercise.
     The Alpine Community Center offers an outdoor fitness class every Saturday morning. Each session runs from 8:30 a.m. – 10 a.m. and costs $7.

Alpine Revitalization meeting coming up
     ALPINE — The next meeting of Supervisor Dianne Jacob’s Alpine Revitalization Steering Committee will be held June 23, from 2 to 4 p.m., at the Crown Hill clubhouse.
     All revitalization sub-committees should meet prior to the June 23 meeting to prepare updates to the community matrix. Return changes to Sharon Ford no later than June 12, sharon.ford@sdcounty.ca.gov.
     The Crown Hills clubhouse is at 1821 Victoria Park Terrace.

Campo Stomp band just starting up
     CAMPO — Campo Music is offering the opportunity for those interested to be part of a new musical group. Patterned after the group Stomp, participants of any age and any experience level will learn unique musical styles and instruments.
     Joining is free of charge, children under the age of 8 are required to have a parent or guardian present.

CFR holds pancake breakfast
     CAMPO — Campo Fire and Rescue Auxiliary will hold a pancake breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 4 at the CFR fire station on Jeb Stuart Road.
The meal will cost $4 for adults and $3 for children and will include all-you-can-eat pancakes, two sausage patties and juice and coffee.
     The morning will include a tour of the station and an opportunity to meet the firefighters who volunteer for the community.
     Proceeds will benefit the fire department.

36th annual Pine Valley Days scheduled
     PINE VALLEY — The 36th annual Pine Valley Days will take place July 28, 29 and 30 in Pine Valley, hosted by the Mountain Empire Men’s Club.
     The three-day event begins with a deep pit barbecue at the Pine Valley Park. The barbecue cost is $7 per adult and $4 for each child under 12.
     Saturday, July 29 begins with the biggest parade in East County. The parade starts at 9 a.m. and includes more than 60 entries.
