AUSD opposed gender-focused education bill  
The Alpine Union School District adopted a new budget, approved a GATE and wellness plan and discussed sponsoring a PTSA workshop. The board opted to reject the most controversial item on the agenda, a gender-focused education bill to revise the state education code.

Students lauded at annual woman's club meeting 
This year's Alpine Woman's Club meeting honored five recent graduates with college scholarships. Also, the club was presented with gifts to the scholarship foundation, and new officers were elected. Mary Chubb is the new president, and Ann Hill was named vice president.

Retired SEAL drives coast to coast for military families
Former U.S. Navy SEAL Don Zub is on a mission. Starting on the 4th of July, he will undertake a three-week, cross-country road trip ending up in Virginia Beach for the UDT-SEAL reunion on July 23. There he will raffle off his 1990 Madza Miata with all the proceeds going to families of SEALS.

High school football field vandalized

Wendell R. Cutting Football Field at El Capitan High School was torn up by vandals using heavy equipment. With a new track installation under way at El Cap, a mini-excavator found on site was used to do the damage. 

Longtime teacher gets vacation ---- at last!
Pat Price of Alpine has spent 37 years in the GUHSD. Principal of El Capitan High School for six years, Price is  retiring and planning a summer trip to New England with his wife. He will spend free time restoring his racing car and traveling through Europe.

Cargo container ordinance to be heard
 The San Diego County Planning Commission will hold a July hearing on regulations related to the use of sea containers on private property. Among other elements of the proposed ordinance changes is the elimination of many private property uses.

Join your local elected officials in a lively discussion of hot topics facing Alpine and the Back Country. The Alpine Chamber of Commerce's 8th annual event will be held on July 26 at Viejas. Big name attendees include Assemblyman Jay LaSuer, County Supervisor Dianne Jacob and Duncan Hunter.

The Pine Valley Community Planning Group met to study a master plan for wireless telecommunications facilities known as cell towers. County staff and the C.H.P. constantly receive citizen complaints expressing frustration with recreational vehicles on residential streets. The Alpine High School Citizens Committee, which has been advocating for a local high school since the late 90s, has provided a comprehensive study of the 12 potential sites. Though they are not suggesting one particular location over another, AHSCC believes that certain sites are not compatible with the needs of Alpine.
