Stargazers invited to Wright’s Field
ALPINE — The Back Country Land Trust will sponsor a Stargazing Nite on Friday, June 30, from 8 to 10 p.m. Brian Jennings, an Alpine resident and San Diego Astronomy Association member, will lead a night of stargazing next to Wright's Field.
We will view the setting moon's craters and other exciting constellations through telescopes including one that's 8-feet long with a 17-inch lens. Don’t forget to bring a flashlight!
Meet in front of Joan McQueen Middle School, 2001 Tavern Road.

Business classes offered through ACC
ALPINE — The Alpine Chamber of Commerce and the Professional Development Academy through the Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District are offering complete training in just a few three-hour sessions. The classes will help improve service and increase business skills. Training will take place locally and is tuition-free.
Each Frontline Session includes tips on getting organized, business communications and cultural awareness.

Sunday Art Walks run all summer long
ALPINE — The Alpine Artists Association will be having its first in a series of monthly Art Walks the first weekend of July. This event allows art aficionados to leisurely view beautiful artwork and meet with artists.
The first Art Walk will be held at the Women’s Club located at 2156 Alpine Boulevard on July 2. Hours for viewing and purchasing art will be from 10 a.m. to 1p.m.

CFR holds pancake breakfast
CAMPO — Campo Fire and Rescue Auxiliary will hold a pancake breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 4 at the CFR fire station on Jeb Stuart Road.
The meal will cost $4 for adults and $3 for children and will include all-you-can-eat pancakes, two sausage patties and juice and coffee.
The morning will include a tour of the station and an opportunity to meet the firefighters who volunteer for the community.
Proceeds will benefit the fire department.

Crown Hills holds 4th of July parade
ALPINE — Patriotism and small town community spirit will be the theme of Alpine’s 9th Annual Independence Day Parade, hosted by the homeowners of Crown Hills with help from the Alpine Kiwanis Club.
The family-friendly event will kick off at noon with the flyover of four German biplanes and include colorful floats, equestrian units, llamas, ponies, antique cars and motorcycles, a monster truck and live music.
All children are encouraged to decorate themselves, their dogs, bikes, skateboards or even their parents. An adult must accompany each group of kids. Red, white and blue costumes are always a welcome addition.
The parade takes place in Crown hills along Gentian Way and Victoria Park Terrace. Those marching in the festivities must arrive at 11 a.m. for staging. Parking will be on Victoria Park Terrace only.

Wildlife Survey Training for Crestridge
SAN DIEGO — The San Diego Tracking Team is offering free training to volunteers interested in assisting with wildlife monitoring at Crestridge Ecological Reserve.
Learn to recognize tracks of native mammal species, and join an experienced tracker on wildlife surveys. Training will take place on July 15 from 9:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve Ranch House.

36th annual Pine Valley Days scheduled
PINE VALLEY — The 36th annual Pine Valley Days will take place July 28, 29 and 30 in Pine Valley, hosted by the Mountain Empire Men’s Club.
The three-day event begins with a deep pit barbecue at the Pine Valley Park. The barbecue cost is $7 per adult and $4 for each child under 12.
Saturday, July 29 begins with the biggest parade in East County. The parade starts at 9 a.m. and includes more than 60 entries.

ALPINE — Join your local elected representatives for a lively evening discussion of important hot topics affecting Alpine and the Back Country. Bring your questions, enjoy dinner and take advantage of the opportunity to meet friends, neighbors and government officials in an informative community event.
The Alpine Chamber of Commerce’s 8th Annual Evening With Your Elected Representatives will be held on July 26 at 6 p.m. in the Viejas Dreamcatcher Lounge. For reservations, one may obtain an RSVP card from the Alpine Chamber of Commerce. For further information, one may call 445-2722.

ALFA half-price day held each Wednesday
ALPINE — Wednesdays will be great deal days at the Alpine Library Friends Bookstore. Most items will be half-off! The used bookstore regularly has low prices, but from now on every Wednesday means slashed prices and smiling faces.
“We've received so many book donations that we need to turn the inventory over faster,” said Jill Sing, a bookstore volunteer. “We also hope to stay open later on Wednesdays…so all those returning from work can benefit from our half price reductions.”
The bookstore, located in the Alpine Creek Town Center, is open Wednesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and weekends from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Volunteers are always welcome!

Line dancing class offered each Saturday
ALPINE — For those struggling with the newest abdominal roller, protein shake or crash diet, consider a simple, fun and healthy alternative. Believe it or not, country line dancing in the park is the latest fad in exercise.
The Alpine Community Center offers an outdoor fitness class every Saturday morning. Each session runs from 8:30 a.m. – 10 a.m. and costs $7.
