ANSA program moves to JMMS  
Alpine Natural Science Academy is changing locations from Mountain View Learning Academy to Joan Mac Queen Middle School this coming 2006-2007 school year. 

Bill puts military on border, nixes shared airport 
The House of Representatives version of the National Defense Authorization Act for 2007 (HR 5122) offers military aid on the border, and prohibits civilian sharing of airport facilities on three local bases — the latter a strong favorite by San Diego Regional Airport Authority. 

4 Democrats, 1 Libertarian, seek Hunter’s House seat 
Four of the candidates who seek the District 52 Congressional seat long occupied by Rep. Duncan Hunter gathered in Ramona last weekend to tout their qualifications to constituents and to answer questions. Democrats Derek Casady, Connie Frankowiak, Karen Otter and John Rinaldi, and Libertarian Michael Benoit, are all vying for the East County seat, which has been held by Hunter, a Republican, for the past 26 years.

Trial date set for drug and people smuggler
A trial date of Aug. 13 has been set in the federal smuggling case of a Tijuana man charged with smuggling illegal aliens and marijuana in a car that struck a California Highway Patrol vehicle near Pine Valley. 

Former Jacumba man charged with molestation
A former Jacumba man and high school teacher was ordered May 9 to stand trial on seven felony counts of molesting a teen-aged girl and two boys who testified against him in a preliminary hearing. The victims are not his students.
 
Border agents to develop in-house EMT training 
The San Diego Sector Border Patrol plans to launch for the first time ever, its own internal Emergency Medical Technician basic certification course.

Junior Fair crowns rural youth’s efforts 
The East County Junior Fair, currently under way at the Lakeside Rodeo Grounds, has attracted many Back Country members of Future Farmers of America and East County 4-H clubbers to participate in showing their best steers, pigs and chickens. Among the exhibitors currently showing at the fair are El Capitan High School, Mountain Empire High School, Alpine Amigos (4-H), Japatul 4H and Jamul.
