Seniors can take advantage of food distribution
     BACK COUNTRY — Seniors living in the Back Country who are 60 years of age of older can take advantage of a free food service program, which delivers 40-pound boxes of food to local specific points in the area.
     Residents are currently trying to get the word out and collect information about senior in the area who would like to receive a food box. The current pick-up point in the Campo/Lake Morena area is at Lake Morena Village.

Local 4-H looking for more Amigos
     ALPINE — The Alpine Amigos 4-H is looking for interested youth between the ages of five and 19 to join the club.
     Would you love to learn more about farm animals and crafts? Come see what 4-H is all about. General Meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month, 7 p.m. at the Alpine Community Center.

Voice of democracy essay contest
     ALPINE — The VFW is having a VFW Voice of Democracy Contest, for a grand prize of a $30,000 scholarship along with many others. Contestants are to write a 3 to 5 minute national patriotic speech expressing their interpretation of freedom’s challenge. The competition is open to 9-12 graders.

Fall crafts show coming up
     ALPINE — The Alpine Arts and Crafts Association will be hosting Fall Craft Shows at the Alpine community center on November 18th and 19th. The event will feature everything from hand painted country items, hand blown glass, to crochet garments.

Campo family nights
     CAMPO — The Mountain Empire Collaborative is sponsoring Campo Family Night at the Mountain Empire Community Center from 6 to 8:30 p.m.
     Attendees will have a chance to meet their neighbors, have dinner, see a movie, play games, crafts and much more. They will be on Fridays, Dec. 1, Jan. 26, Feb. 23, March 30, April 27 and June 1.

CTN looking for local content
     SAN DIEGO — The County is accepting applications for grants that encourage non-profit and educational institutions to produce quality and timely half-hour video productions. Five $10,000 grants will be awarded through the Local Government Programming Video Grant Program, and finished videos will be aired on CTN, Cox channel 19, and Time Warner Channel 22.

ACC hosting fall festival
     ALPINE— “Get’em while they’re hot!” The tickets for Fall Fantasy, this year’s version of Autumn Fest, the annual gala staged by the Alpine Community Church, are ready and waiting for you.
     The 2006 version is set for Nov. 11 at the Alpine Community Center from 5:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. featuring a catered diner, dancing to DJ Extraordinaire Frank Fiorito, both a live and silent auction and fun for everyone.
     Tickets, at $40 a person, can be reserved at the church office by calling 445-2110.

ACC hosts second annual fall tennis classic
     ALPINE — The Alpine Community Center will be hosting the Second Annual ACC Fall Tennis Classic on the weekend of Nov. 18 and 19. The tournament will be adult mixed doubles competition for experienced players. There will be trophies for winners and some door prizes.
     The entry fee is 16 dollars per player, and the deadline to register is Nov. 13. The public is invited to watch and cheer on their favorite players for free.

Annual antique sale this weekend in Descanso
     DESCANSO — The Mountain Empire’s Collectors Club will be hosting the 24th annual Descanso Antique sale on November 4th and 5th at historic Descanso town hall. Throughout the year community members gather antiques such at refinished furniture, memorabilia, mining items from Julian, small country primitives and so much more. The show is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and admission is free to all.
