Candidates get nasty at school board forum
Alpine voters had a chance to meet the candidates vying for three seats on the Grossmont Union School District’s Board of Trustees at a forum held at the community center on Oct. 17. Alpine teenagers generally feed into Granite Hills and Steele Canyon high schools, governed by GUHSD. Grossmont has also vowed to build a 12th district high school in Alpine.  

Campaign reform, Jessica’s Law on proposition ballots  
In addition to voting for candidates in various election races, voters in the Nov. 7 midterm election will have a chance to weigh-in on a number of local and statewide propositions. Ranging from campaign reform, to alternative energy, to Jessica’s Law, voters will be asked to voice their opinions by voting for or against these propositions. 

AUSD candidates offer very different choices for voters
The candidates for the Alpine Union School District Board of Trustees have made their campaign strategies known, and have staked their signs out in an attempt to collect votes. Alpiners have no doubt seen the mass of campaign signs that are filling corners and roadsides all around town.   

Between the Stripes raises money for big cats
Nearly 400 people came out to Lions, Tigers and Bears on Oct. 14, for the second annual Between the Stripes fund raiser. The event helped raise funds for the eventual rebuilding of tiger enclosures that will give the four resident tigers more space, and exercise area.

14th annual Vaquero Days was a galloping good time  
The 14th Annual Vaquero Days drew people in from all over the county, to celebrate our California Ranching Heritage as well as our early California history. At this annual celebration, one may witness a Round Pen demonstration, Music and Poetry, Ranch Roping, Ranch Horse Competitions, Cowdog Trials, and vendors who offer anything that anyone would want to become part of the back country.
