Alpine voters will have a chance to meet GUHSD candidates  
The Alpine High School Citizens Committee, in conjunction with Soroptimist International and The Alpine Sun, will host GUHSD candidate forum on Tuesday, Oct. 17 at the Alpine Community Center. 

Honorary mayor candidates begin campaigning for coveted position  
Just what are the duties of the Honorary Mayor of Alpine, the man who will be elected in December by popular vote, meaning of course, the candidate who buys the most votes?  

Growth and infrastructure are major issues for Campo group electorate
At a special forum held last Monday, Sept. 25, residents from Campo and Lake Morena had chance to meet their planning group candidates for the Nov. 7 election. As is always the case in the community, growth, groundwater and infrastructure is a major issue for residents, as seen by the types of questions posed to the planning group hopefuls.   

Local artists highlighted at festival
Stephanie Wells and Theresa King choreographed the Second Annual Alpine Art Festival held last weekend Sept. 30 in the Alpine Community Center and Park. The festival attracted local artists, photographers, musicians, poets, sky hunters, dancers, and even a group of Karate students from the Santee Dojo. Alpine turned out to see a lot happen throughout the day.  

20 teachers received GATE certification throughout summer
This 2006-2007 school year already is showing promise for our GATE, Gifted and Talented Education, students, as the district’s GATE Committee has put into action a plan that they devised last year through hard work and long hours of discussion and research. 
 
Lake Jennings has lots to activities for all visitors of all ages  
Lake Jennings is much more than a water reservoir for the Helix Water District. It is a wonderful place for fishing, hiking, picnics or just unwinding. Hugh Marx, the supervising ranger for the lake provides a wealth of information about this recreational park.
