Local fire councils
honored at county event
As the threat of forest fire heats up, local and
countywide fire officials are campaigning for a cool season. At
a special event held Wednesday, Sept. 13, fire officials from
the California Department of Forestry, the U.S. Forest Service,
and Farmers Insurance Service gathered at the new Alpine Fire
Station to honor local fire safe councils.
Residents raise concerns over AUSD politics

District board members heard from concerned residents last
Wednesday, Sept. 20, at the group’s regular meeting. Concerns
over recent items read in the paper, left some Alpine citizens
worried that our school district’s Board of Trustees may be
going on a political bent. The board members assured all
present, that the board members were not politically minded, and
the students were always the first priority in their business.
Choosing your electoral college reps
On Nov. 7 of this year residents in California and
across the nation will vote for various local and statewide
representatives. Those state candidates will play a huge role in
the election of the next President in 2008, thanks to the
electoral college system.
Lutz trial delayed: Defense requests more time to prepare
The murder trial of Jeremy John Lutz has been delayed to
Jan. 29, 2007, after his new attorney requested more time to
prepare for the defense in the 2005 slaying of a Lakeside man.
Art festival will feature local talent
The kick-off event of the month-long Viejas Days is the
Second Annual Alpine Art Festival to be held Saturday, Sept. 30
at the Alpine Community Center.
Ex-presidential aide to Carter joins local candidates at
picnic
Midge Costanza, former White House advisor to President
Jimmy Carter, was among the star-studded guest list at East
County United’s, “Picnic with the Candidates: Celebration in the
Park” on Sunday, Sept. 17 at Santee Lakes Park.

Portion of Dead Sea Scrolls will make local tour next
summer
East County and San Diego folks have a special treat to
look forward to and plan for next summer. They can take a trip
back in time to 250 B.C. through 70 C.E. by visiting the San
Diego Museum of Natural History anytime between June 29, 2007 to
Dec, 31, 2007.
