Trial postponed until next year after death of defense attorney  
The death of the defense attorney for a man charged with causing one of the county's worst accidents, involving illegal alien smuggling and five deaths in Jamul, has resulted in a delay of the trial until March 2007.  

Choking incident at local restaurant prompts call for awareness, education  
A recent incident that occurred at a local Alpine restaurant has brought to light questions about practices within the restaurant industry about responses to patrons in distress. 

Community discusses subcommittee membership policies, standing rules
An issue that arose at the most recent Campo/Lake Morena Planning Group meeting, has sparked a spate of discussion amongst residents in the area as well as other communities in the Back Country.   

API scores continue upward momentum, place district 12th in county
The Annual Percentage Index Scores have been released from the State of California and Alpine is firmly over 800 in the overall score for the district. This is good news for the district, as it raises the bar on our students’ academic achievement, pushing Alpine schools up to a ranking of 12th place among the 41 San Diego County school districts.  

ACC bids farewell to Pastor Mowry

Almost the entire congregation of the Alpine Community Church gathered at a farewell dinner held Sunday evening in Fuller Hall, to wish the Reverend J. James Mowry the very best in retirement. Sunday morning, Mowry conducted his last worship service, that concluded with a formal litany releasing Mowry from his pastoral duties to the church. 
 
AUSD board returns to work, discusses test scores and bonuses  
The Alpine Union School District held their first Board Meeting on Aug. 30 at the Creekside Early Learning Center. 

Pine Valley charter school begins another year enrolled to capacity
Among murmurs of problems with enrollment at the Pine Valley Academy, clarification is a must. As Pine Valley Academy opens its doors for a second year of operation, staff are proud to be enrolled to capacity.

The Alpine Town Hall has just been designated as a Historic Landmark by the County of San Diego Historic Register Board.

Alpine seniors prepare for Walk of Ages
They call themselves the Silver Sneakers, they have silvery hair, and range in age from 65 to the 90’s but they want you to know that they can keep up with the younger set when it comes to helping others. These Alpine seniors are in training to walk farther than seniors usually do because they want to be ready to do their bit for the Walk of Ages.

History lives on at LMVA event
The Laguna Mountain Volunteer Association brought history forward to present day, for the 20th annual Living History Exhibition, held over Labor Day weekend at the Mount Laguna Red Tail Roost.
