Battle Lines Drawn: Potrero residents battle local planning boards  
Potrero residents, including a former Potrero Planning Board member and a newly elected member of the board, have voiced concern that the Blackwater project is being “fast-tracked” through the County Department of Planning & Land Use (DPLU) process under new streamlined procedures.   

Sunrise Powerlink alternatives bisect Back Country 
In a report issued in March, the California Public Utilities Commission decided to keep three southern routes for the 500-kilovolt Sunrise Powerlink power line as possible alternatives to the preferred route through Anza-Borrego State Park. 

Bill to pull California investments in Iran passes Assembly
California lawmakers have taken the first step towards preventing the state's pension plans from investing in companies that do business in Iran. The bill, AB 221, authored by local freshman assemblyman Joel Anderson, was approved by the Assembly Public Employees, Retirement and Social Security Committee in a 4-1 vote. It would require the nation's two largest public pension funds to divest from companies doing business in Iran.   

Alpine Challenge ride will raise money for local students
These past few weeks have brought forth a bounty of growth along the roads of Alpine. The recent rain being followed by glorious days of sunshine invited the spring to arrive in full force. And who could resist enjoying this "not so far away" countryside; certainly not the cyclist of San Diego County.

The Battle of Iwo Jima was fought by America and Japan during February and March of 1945, during the Pacific campaign of World War II. The U.S. invasion, known as Operation Detachment, was aimed at capturing the Iwo Jima airfields.
