County won’t
release Blackwater documents
With a looming deadline for public comment, San Diego
County officials did not respond to a reporter’s inquiries
whether some comments would be included in the Environmental
Impact Report (EIR) for Blackwater USA’s proposed military-style
training camp in Potrero.
PC approves Tavern Road tentative map
The county’s
Planning Commission approved a tentative map to create seven
residential lots on a 1.30-acre parcel on Tavern Road near the
intersection of Tavern Court.
Water main break leaves parts of Alpine high and dry
“Water, water everywhere, but not a drop to drink!” — So
said the Ancient Mariner in Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s epic poem.
But that phrase could have equally come from many Alpiners’ lips
on the afternoon of last Thursday, April 19. The unexpected
break of a substantial water main left many Alpiners high and
dry, or all wet, for up to 18 hours
County Supervisors authorize grant application to clean up
Alpine and Jacumba burn sites
The San Diego County Board of Supervisors authorized the
county’s Department of Public Works to apply for a state grant
to clean up several landfills and burn sites, including the
Alpine II, Jacumba I, and Jacumba II burn sites.
Students looking for Alpine locals to open homes for
summer exchange
The Wesselink’s household has been a very lively place
for the last decade or so. With five children of their own,
they’ve also welcomed five foster kids from time to time. And
according to Barbara Wesselink, the busy mother of the crew,
they have also enjoyed exchange students from around the world.
The Sun sponsors 2007 MS Walk
The National Multiple Sclerosis Society has named San
Diego Neighborhood Newspapers, Inc., publisher of The Alpine
Sun, as a major media sponsor of the San Diego County Credit
Union 2007 MS Walk, to be held April 28 and 29.
Planning already beginning for next year’s eighth-grade
East Coast trip
On Thursday, May 3 at 6:30 p.m. at the Alpine Elementary
School auditorium, an information/registration meeting including
a slide show presentation will be held for Joan Mac Queen
seventh grade students and parents regarding next year’s Annual
Educational East Coast Tour. The historical and educational
destinations on this ambitious itinerary are Virginia,
Washington, D.C., the Pennsylvania Amish Country, and New York
City.
