Albertson’s to open doors in March 2008

ALPINE — The Alpine Village Center, and
the new Albertson’s store on the corner of Alpine Boulevard and
South Grade Road, began construction of the building on Aug. 13,
according to Grant Tucker Properties, the project developer.
Construction has not been easy, as rock formations have created
six weeks of delays.
The Albertsons/Sav-on store, the anchor market in the
71,700-square-foot Alpine Village Center, will be a
52,500-square-foot store that will echo the East Main Street
Albertsons in El Cajon. The Grand Opening for this facility in
Alpine is slated for the week of March 10, 2008.
In addition, Grant Tucker Properties announced that the
Alpine Design Review Board approved the conceptual building,
landscaping and sign plans for a Wells Fargo Bank at the project
site, during its meeting of Aug. 6. The bank facility will take
the place of the previously approved fast food facility.
“The neighbors contiguous with the shopping center
implored us to find a more benign use than a fast food
restaurant, and through aggressive marketing efforts, we were
able to attract a very high quality user to our project,” said
Larry Tucker of Grant Tucker Properties.
A requirement of the Alpine Village Center approvals
calls for the installation of a traffic signal at the
intersection of Alpine Boulevard and West Victoria/Arnold Way,
with some minor intersection improvement work. The signal and
intersection work is scheduled to commence by the end of this
month and is scheduled to be complete by the end of October.
“This uniquely configured intersection will perform at
a much higher level once the county required improvements are
completed” said Tucker.
Grant Tucker Properties has been working with Alpine to
bring our community a full and comprehensive facility to serve
our growing population. The new center will feature a spacious
parking lot with 345 spaces, along with a Starbucks, Subway,
Happiness Nails and Dry Clean USA.
Land mitigations have been rumored to be required for
construction by this center and some Alpine residents were
hoping for a park area, but mitigations have been satisfied to
the county in the form of cash paid mitigation fees.
The possibility of a small park area would be due to
the generosity of Albertson’s, who would require for the county
to take on this project to guarantee that the area is properly
maintained.
