Christmas open house at Pioneer Houses
ALPINE — The Alpine Historical Society invites the public to
view their two-century-old houses on Saturday, Dec. 29 and
Sunday, Dec. 30 from 2 to 4 p.m. that have been beautifully
decorated for the holidays at 2116 Tavern Road.
These houses offer a view of the Back Country lifestyle from
a bygone era. The Dr. Sophronia Nichols House, built in
1896, is a small house with an abandoned 1886 schoolhouse
added onto it. Behind the house is a barn used as her
carriage house.
The Adam and Caroline Beaty House, built in 1899 of redwood
and moved onto the property in 1997, is a two-story house
with a wraparound veranda. Woven around Alpine’s historical
artifacts, the museum houses show a pioneer Christmas of
handmade ornaments, pinecones and boughs, wooden toys, cloth
dolls, and lace.
