Alpine Community Center launches 2007 fund raising campaign

ALPINE — As the New Year rang in, the Alpine Community Center commenced its “2007 Mortgage Maker” campaign.
The community center provides a host of programs for the residents of Alpine, including a childcare program, a teen center, and activities and a meal program for seniors. The beautiful newer building was a welcome addition to Alpine when it was built a few years ago. However, that construction came at a price.
The community center is a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation. As such, its funds come almost completely from private donations and grants. The community center receives very little funding from the county. This is in contrast with the many other community centers around the county that are funded by either the city they are in or by private foundations.
Because of this, the community center staff continually endeavors to raise funds to meet its obligations. The most looming expense is the semi-annual mortgage payment that arose from the new center’s construction a few years ago.
“Many people seem to be under the mistaken assumption that we are funded by the county,” said Alpine Community Center director Sue Roff. “That is incorrect. We are an independent entity and receive very little assistance from the county.”
“The community center exists for the benefit of the residents, but we need their support,” she continued.
Under the 2007 Mortgage Maker campaign, donors are asked to commit to a $2,000 donation either for the January portion of the mortgage, or by June for the next month’s installment. Realizing that not everyone has the means to contribute that amount of money, the center welcomes any amount that a person is willing to donate.
Flashback three years — Recall the horrendous fires and remember all the good work done by the center’s staff and its many volunteers during Alpine’s times of need.
The community center was there for Alpine then when residents needed it most. Why not donate and support the center that supports Alpine?

Save the form below to your computer, print, and mail with your contribution to the address listed here, or stop by the community center and drop of your donation in person.
