AHSCC prepares
to fight for Alpine high school construction
At a strategic planning
meeting held on Monday night, the Alpine High School Citizen’s
Committee discussed issues that have been rumored and leaked in
regards to the Proposition H Bond that was passed in March 2004.
Present at this planning meeting were AHSCC members, concerned
residents and parents and GUHSD board vice president Larry
Urdahl.
New La Posta BP facility nearing completion
A new California Border
Patrol station is taking shape in the Back Country, nestled
between Old Highway 80 and Highway 94, along La Posta Road in
the Campo area. No doubt residents of the area have noticed the
large facility popping up along the secluded road.
Alpine educators feeling unappreciated by district
Alpine Union School District trustees, teachers
and residents gathered at Creekside Early Learning Center last
Thursday, Jan. 18, for the monthly school board meeting.
Contractor pleads guilty for defrauding Cedar Fire victims
A self-employed contractor pleaded guilty on Jan. 18 to grand
theft and contracting without a license in a disaster area after
defrauding a Harbison Canyon couple who hired him to work on
rebuilding their home that was lost in the 2003 Cedar wildfire.
Tavern Road project includes wider ramps and new signal lights
Local drivers have no doubt noticed these giant signs on both
the east- and westbound ramps of Tavern Road advising motorists
about the 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. closures which began on Monday and
will run intermittently until the end of March.
Local school board trustee completes Governance program
Local Alpine Union School District trustee Mark
Price has completed the California School Boards’ Association
Masters in Governance program.
Mtn. Empire Community Center damaged by flood
The Mountain Empire Community Center, located in
Campo will be out of commission for a little while, after the
building’s sprinkler system iron pipes broke causing severe
flood damage. The flood happened on Sunday, Jan. 14, when the
temperatures in Campo dipped to only 12 degrees.
Dulzura driver gets 72 months for smuggling crash that killed
two
A federal judge on Tuesday imposed a six-year
prison term for the driver of a van that crashed in Dulzura,
killing two women and injuring 15 others who were being smuggled
illegally into the country in March 2006.
Alpine kids pump it up at Youth Olympics
More than 100 Alpine children took part in the
Kiwanis Youth Olympics event held last Saturday, Jan. 20 at
Alpine Elementary. Despite the recent cold snap, the sun was
shinning that morning for the yearly Olympics event and
participants enjoyed warm weather.
Finding the right job — right now
I know people who love their careers and can’t wait to
go to work each day. And I know others who hate their jobs and
feel underemployed, underpaid or overworked. No matter where you
fall in that spectrum today, someday you may want to test the
waters for new opportunities.
