CCT theatre announces
auditions for Senior Follies
EL CAJON - CCT Musical Theater and Art Beat Management
are looking for talented people to star in their production of
SENIOR FOLLIES, a musical review that will transport audiences
back to the best music and dance of the twentieth century.
Performers 55 years or older, who love to sing, dance,
tell jokes or just entertain in general are invited to come
and audition on Jan. 25, 26 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. and Jan. 27
from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., at the East County Performing Art
Center.
Show dates are June 21 through 24. For more information

rehearsal hall at 1545 Pioneer Way, El Cajon.
Singers, be prepared to sing a one minute song selection,
dancers, come prepared to move, others, be prepared with a one
minute audition to show us your talent.
Campo family
nights
CAMPO — The Mountain Empire Collaborative is sponsoring
Campo Family Night from 6 to 8:30 p.m. this Friday night.
Normally the event would be held at the Mountain Empire
Community Center, however, due to the flooding that took place
at the center recently this weekend’s event will be held in
the cafeteria at Campo Elementary.
Attendees will have a chance to meet their neighbors,
have dinner, see a movie, play games, crafts and much more.
They will be on Fridays, Jan. 26, Feb. 23, March 30, April 27
and June 1.

Pony league
tryouts
ALPINE - The Alpine/Viejas Pony Baseball season tryouts
will take place at the Pony Field behind Shadow Hills on Jan.
27 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Feb. 3 from 10 a.m. to noon.
Late registration at try-outs will cost $195.
There are open positions within the league for team
managers, coaches and the Pony Board. The league is also
looking for sponsors and a donation of a container to store
equipment.

Tea-time at
Alpine Woman’s Club
ALPINE — The Fourteenth Annual Victorian Tea will be held
at the Alpine Woman’s Club on Saturday, Feb. 24.
First seating is at noon and the second seating is at 3
p.m. The club is located at 2156 Alpine Blvd in the historic
Town Hall. There will be a silent auction and several raffle
items. This event is open to the public and Victorian dress is
optional. Cost is $25 per person and proceeds will go towards
their scholarship fund. Space is limited so please order your
tickets early.

Historic
buildings open house
ALPINE - The Alpine Town Hall and the Alpine Historical
Society's two historic buildings will be open to the public on
Saturday, Jan. 27 and Sunday, Jan. 28 from 2 to 4 p.m.
This is a great opportunity to go back in time and learn
more about Historic Alpine from several knowledgeable docents.
The Town Hall, owned and operated by the Alpine Woman's Club,
was built in 1899 and is located at 2156 Alpine Blvd. The Dr.
Sophronia Nichol's House was built in 1896 and the Capt Adam
Beaty house was built in 1899. They are both located at 2116
Tavern Road. Just follow the signs to the Museum.
ACC hosts
Valentine’s dinner and dance
ALPINE — The Alpine Community Center will host
Valentine’s Dinner and Dance on Saturday, Feb. 3 at the
center, 1830, Alpine Blvd.
The evening will run from 6 to 10 p.m. and will include
a chicken or beef diner, a no host bar, silent auction and
50/50 drawing, as well as music provided by The Ideals.
Tickets are $30 per person and reservations are
mandatory. Tickets must be purchased in advance at the

Seniors can take
advantage of food distribution
BACK COUNTRY - Seniors living in the Back Country who are
60 years of age of older can take advantage of a free food
service program, which delivers 40-pound boxes of food to
local specific points in the area.
Residents are currently trying to get the word out and
collect information about senior in the area who would like to
receive a food box. The current pick-up point in the
Campo/Lake Morena area is at Lake Morena Village.

ALPINE — The Alpine Writer’s Guild is in the process of
organizing a writing group for teens. If you are a local

Year-round cruises
SAN DIEGO — Carnival Cruises will launch a year-round
cruise schedule with four and five day voyages to Mexico. The
2,052 passenger fun ship, Elation will depart on Thursdays for
four-day cruises and Mondays and Saturdays for five day
cruises. The Elation will also operate six day Mexico cruises
and a 15 day Panama Canal Cruise.

ALFA has new store hours
ALPINE — The Alpine Library Friends
Association Book Store has new operating hours.
It will be open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5
p.m. and closed on Mondays. The store is located in The Alpine
Creek Town Center, 1347 Tavern Rd. Suite #14.
If you have not visited the bookstore yet you are missing
out on the best selections of books in the East County. There
is a large variety of books to choose from at reasonable
rates. Many books are sold for a fraction of their original
price. Everyday there are new books to choose from on the New
Arrival’s table. Wednesday is Half Price Day and patrons need
to stop in to see what is half price that day. You can also
purchase gift certificates.
All proceeds go towards supporting the Alpine Library
with new books and magazines, equipment, crafts for Story Time
programs and continuing to increase ALFA’s capital fundraising
account for a new Alpine Library.
Free guitar lessons for teens
ALPINE — A free guitar class is being offered to local
teens on Wednesday evenings at 3:30, 4:15, and 5 p.m. at the
Alpine Community Center, 1830 Alpine Blvd. There are three
classes available: Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced.
Middle and High School students are invited participate in
these free lessons.
Students need to bring their own guitar; electric and
acoustic guitars can be used for the class. The instructor is
Fr. Keith Acker, pastor of our local Alpine Anglican Church.
He has taught guitar for more than 20 years and taught the
free classes to teenagers in Alpine the last five years.

Support group
formed for Alpine cancer patients, caregivers
ALPINE - This year nearly 12,000 San Diego County
residents will be diagnosed with some type of cancer. In order
to address their special needs and concerns, the American
Cancer Society has established a support group for patients,
survivors, caregivers and family members who live in Alpine
and nearby communities.
Meetings will continue throughout the year on the third
Wednesday of each month. A licensed marriage/family therapist
will facilitate the support group and guest speakers are being
scheduled for upcoming sessions.
Anyone who has been affected by cancer, either as a
patient or a family member, is invited to this group at 6:30
p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 17, at the Alpine Community Center, 1830

Local 4-H looking for more Amigos
ALPINE — The
Alpine Amigos 4-H is looking for interested youth between the
ages of five and 19 to join the club.
Would you love to learn more about farm animals and

AFPD offering
five scholarships to local students
ALPINE - The Alpine Fire Protection District invites
local high school seniors to compete for one of five $1,000
regional scholarships to be awarded by the San Diego Chapter
of the California Special Districts Association (CSDA).
The purpose of the scholarship program is to increase
knowledge and awareness of special districts and their role in
local government. Students who compete for a scholarship will
complete an essay that demonstrates their knowledge about the
purpose of special districts. Applicants must also provide a
personal statement related to their background or goals.
Additional selection criteria include community involvement or
volunteer service, letters of recommendation, and grade point
average (2.5 minimum).

Eligible students must live within the district's service

CTN looking for local content
SAN DIEGO — The
County is accepting applications for grants that encourage
non-profit and educational institutions to produce quality and
timely half-hour video productions. Five $10,000 grants will
be awarded through the Local Government Programming Video
Grant Program, and finished videos will be aired on CTN, Cox
channel 19, and Time Warner Channel 22.

Alpine Mountaineers 2007 sign-ups
ALPINE — Alpine Mountaineer Pop Warner Football league
will be holding sign-ups beginning in February.
The Alpine Mountaineers are a Pop Warner Football League
with Six teams and Cheer Squads, ranging in age from 5 to 15.
Cheer Squads will be matched with an age appropriate football
team.
Sign-ups are scheduled for Feb. 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
at Alpine Elementary, March 9 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Alpine
Elementary and finally on March 24 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at
Shadow Hills Elementary.
Players must have two copies of their birth certificates
and a 1-by-1 inch head shot photo. At the end of school year,
a copy of the year’s report card will be required.
Last year, local Cheer Squads took third place in
regional finals, appeared on the field at a Charger game and
participated in the half time show at the Poinsettia Bowl.
Registration is $225 and includes coaching, competition
registration fees and Cheer Uniform.
The Mountaineers are also looking for volunteer Cheer
Coaches and a Cheer Director. For further information, contact
