Experts will weigh
in during month of powerlink hearings
Hearings began on Monday, to discuss the proposed San
Diego Gas & Electric Sunrise Powerlink. This week begins a
month-long series of hearings that will feature experts in
various areas testifying about the need for and cost of the
project.
Pine Valley residents will vote on state firefighter
staffing
Pine Valley
residents will soon be receiving ballots in their mailboxes,
asking them to vote on the future staffing of the local fire
department. The mail ballot referendum will decide whether fire
fighters from the California Department of Forestry and Fire
Protection will join the group of two paid fire fighters and 29
volunteers that currently serve in the district.
Fires hit close to home as Back Country dries out
Fire fighters on the ground and in the air have gained
the upper hand on a pair of wildfires that burned in Dulzura and
Barrett Junction, last Friday, July 5.
Alpine woman who killed husband approved to continue
outpatient treatment
A judge on Friday, reviewed the outpatient status for an
Alpine woman who was found to be insane when she killed her
husband in 2002 and allowed her to continue with the same
program.

the Alpine “Lite” radio station, saw a need in town and armed
with one of the tastiest pizza crust recipes, opened this
stellar establishment to fulfill it.
Annual parade and fair steps off in Descanso
It’s summer time and the parades were in full swing this
week. The long standing Descanso Fair and Independence Day
Parade were held on Saturday, July 7, and commemorated the red,
white and blue with flying colors. Tractors flying our national
colors with pride, horsemen and women, along with the
community’s children participated in making a memorable memorial
for our national holiday.
Woman's Club presents scholarships
The Alpine Woman's Club presented five outstanding
students with checks for $1,000, and a certificate indicating
their award for their scholastic achievements. All five
recipients graduated from Granite Hills High School.
