Blackwater issue sparks partisan politics in Potrero  
At a contentious Potrero Planning Group meeting, held last Thursday, July 12, it was obvious that the recent controversial Blackwater project has caused a rift in the community. An understandably edgy board was on the defensive, due to the current recall effort of those members who voted for the project.  

Manslaughter plea denied in deputy’s case  
A judge, on Friday, July 13, rejected a plea bargain for a sheriff’s deputy from Alpine who planned to plead guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the shooting death of his wife and have a murder charge dismissed against him. 

Alpine resident is SD Paramedic of the Year
San Diego Medical Services Enterprise honored local Alpine resident Keith Naylor, naming him “Paramedic of the Year.” Naylor received the award to culminate National EMS Week, held at the end of May. 

Najor pleads guilty to felony forgery
When Nazar Najor pleaded guilty June 26 to a charge involving his operation of the Live Oak Springs water system, everyone, including the judge, thought he was pleading guilty to a felony charge that admitted his water system was safe to drink when it wasn’t.

If you were in town on Sunday, June 24, you saw the banners flip-flapping, red eagle kites flying, and amazing original paintings and photographs under the artistic tents gracing the front entranceway of Crows Passage on Alpine Boulevard.

Didier wins five ribbons at San Diego County Fair winemaking contest
Alpine’s David Didier won five awards at the San Diego County Fair’s homemade wine competition June 17, including a first-place ribbon in the Grenache category. Didier also received a second-place ribbon, two third-place awards, and one fourth-place.

Annual art festival is next weekend
The third annual Art and Children’s Festival, on July 28, located at the Alpine Community Park, presented by the Southern California Center for Youth, Nature & the Arts, Inc. promises to be full of entertainment, and interest for the whole family.
