Residents hear
specifics of planned Blackwater project
Potrero Planning Group members and more than 50
residents and visitors filled the local Kiwanis building on
Thursday, July 12, to discuss the Blackwater West training
facility being proposed for Potrero Valley. Meeting-goers also
heard three presentations about the project.
Powerlink hearings postponed due to SDG&E errors
A month-long set of
hearings discussing the proposed Sunrise Powerlink has been
postponed, after an admission by San Diego Gas & Electric that
it made significant errors in estimating the benefits of its
powerlink project.

When the first Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered by
Bedouin goat-herders in 1947, archaeologists were working with
considerably less technology than they are today, but they still
knew how to study a scroll.
Body of man found in Jacumba was bound, beaten
A man whose body was found Sunday on a rural stretch of
highway near the Mexican border had been bound and beaten and
his death was being investigated as a possible homicide,
according to the sheriff’s department.
Lakeside branch library unveils mural created by local
artist
A cultural and all-inclusive mural was unveiled at the
Lakeside Library, a branch of the San Diego County Library. Jose
Aponte, the director of the San Diego County Library, along with
the staff of the Lakeside Library Branch, welcomed the public as
they officially celebrated a mural that was painted by local
artist, Mona Mills, in the children’s room of the library.
Potrero residents submit signatures to oust planning board
Nearly half the registered voters living in Potrero have
signed petitions calling for a recall election to oust seven of
the Potrero Planning Group’s eight members: Chairman Gordon
Hammers, Jerry Johnson, Mary Johnson, Thell Miller, Mike
Rubalcava, Eric Berger, and Janet Wright.
Sharp Healthcare nurses reach a tentative contract
agreement
At the United Nurses Associations of California/Union of
Health Care Professionals state office in Pomona, Calif., 1,000
blue, green and white picketing signs are lying in an office
corner—printed, stapled and ready to go. Or at least 1,000 signs
minus four.
Fans line up to get a copy of Potter’s final adventure
Harry Potter has finally made his final appearance on
the bookshelves. J. K. Rowling has ended her series with a bang,
and a lot of East County was there to collect their long awaited
final Harry Potter book in the series.
