Residents misled
about water safety
Nazar Najor, the operator of the Live Oak Springs water
system, pleaded guilty June 26 to possession of an altered
record he gave to county officials that stated the water system
was safe to drink when it was contaminated.
Local student is AVID about education
Congratulations are
in order, for Alpine student Mallory Buchanan, who was honored
as the San Diego University AVID 8th Grade Standout for Joan Mac
Queen Middle School.
Albertson’s construction delayed: Plans to open in
February 2008
Many residents have been watching with interest all of
the earth moving and grading development on Alpine Boulevard,
near the corner of South Grade Road, where the hills and valleys
are being moved and reshaped. The future site of the new
Albertson’s Sav-On store is being prepared, for planned
construction beginning in Aug. 1.
Wright’s Field comes alive at Bug Nite
It’s true — the critters come alive in the nighttime.
Michael Klein, the entomologist and leader of Alpine’s first Bug
Nite at Wright’s Field, estimates participants captured and
released 35 to 40 different insects during the Saturday, June 23
evening event. An added plus was a group of participants were
surprised by a rare and secretive snake.
Local PTA meets fund raising goals, buys new school
computers
Shadow Hills Elementary School Parent Teacher
Association has reached its prestigious goal of raising more
than $20,000 in funds to replace all 30 computers in the Shadow
Hills Elementary Computer Lab this year.
Alpine’s newest residents take flight
These two young Barn Owls have now taken flight to find
their own Alpine home. After their parents moved into a nesting
box built by Victor Anderson, the adults produced several eggs.
