PUC Sunrise pick threatens Back Country communities  
Despite a report from the California Public Utilities Commission, which states that the Sunrise Powerlink is, “clearly not needed,” the PUC has added another possible route for the San Diego Gas & Electric project.  

Trial date set for Alpine deputy who shot his wife  
A trial date of Oct. 9 was set May 30 for sheriff’s deputy Lowell “Sam” Bruce, who is charged with killing his wife during an argument in their Alpine home.  

County Supervisors adopt consolidated Fire Code
The San Diego County Board of Supervisors adopted a consolidated Fire Code, which also revised deck construction requirements.   

Boulevard escapee gets four years
A prisoner who walked away from the McCain Valley Sierra Conservation Center in Boulevard, was sentenced May 29 to four years in a more secure prison for escaping the minimum security facility back in February.   

Alpine Materials: Serving Alpine, San Diego County — and Africa
Alpine skies — filled with heavy, swirling, black smoke shot through with angry red flashes — terrified most of the town during those horrifying nights of the Cedar Fire. As the flames drew ever closer, to make it even worse, not even a lamp could shine in the darkened town.

The Granville Tractor Museum, located in Japatul Valley, enjoyed its Springtime Festivities this past weekend, including Mike Martin’s 77th birthday with a barbecue and birthday cake.

Alpine’s first high school turns out four grads in inaugural year
Alpine Academy has successfully finished its first year of operation and has produced four graduating seniors who are, for all intents and purposes, the first seniors to ever graduate from an Alpine high school. Those graduating seniors that are making Alpine history include: Elliot Felix, Zachary Felix, Montana Sommese and Jordan Tyler.
