Residents can take
part in CERT
training in Descanso
DESCANSO
— The Descanso Library Branch is hosting a free Community
Emergency Response Team training session. This training session is
in response to the needs of the Descanso Area in the event that
disaster strikes and there are delays in the community’s
professional response.
With the danger of wildfires, earthquakes,
transportation accidents, and even terrorists attacks that can
strike without warning, people need to be aware that when help is
called for in the form of a 911 call, it may not be as readily
available as it is needed.
For this reason it is imperative to learn all you can
so you can respond in an emergency situation because in a major
disaster, law enforcement, fire fighters, paramedics and hospitals
may be overwhelmed and might not be able to tend to all of the
injured victims immediately.
Our own United States of America’s Department of
Homeland Security urges people to train and prepare themselves for
disaster by enrolling in Community Emergency Response Team
training.
CERT members can and will be able to give assistance to residents
in an emergency, by applying basic response skills that they will
learn during training.
These skills include fire safety, light search and
rescue, and disaster medical operations. These skills can help
save lives following a disaster until help arrives.
