AUSD faces
challenges of No Child Left Behind act
Alpine Union School Board members accepted
$10,000 and talked about the “No Child Left Behind
Act,” at the regular meeting on Feb. 22. The group
also discussed the painting of BOES, presented
information and discussed how Joan Mac Queen
Middle School monitors their students’ test
scores. Also at this meeting, School Site Plans
were address and asked to be revisited at a later

GAFSC makes community more safe with wildfire
protection plan
The Greater Alpine Fire Safety Council is working
hard to bring the best fire safety information and
education as well as implementing chipping
programs to further resident’s efforts in brush
clearance and fuel reduction around homes. The
GAFSC has just completed the Alpine Community
Wildfire Protection Plan that introduces a
community overview, history, risk factor, local

The Descanso Library Branch is hosting a free
Community Emergency Response Team training
session. This training session is in response to
the needs of the Descanso Area in the event that
disaster strikes and there are delays in the

away at Cotillion
The 2007 Winchester Widow’s Cotillion was
something to see. Arriving at 7 p.m. last Saturday
night, at the Descanso Town Hall, decked out in
the finest that 2007 can offer in the way of 1890s
designer duds, were women (and men) who were ready
