County
approves purchase of new Sheriff’s station
The San Diego County Board of Supervisors has
approved the purchase of a 1.26-acre site in
Alpine for use as a Sheriff’s station. The
property at 2751 Alpine Blvd. currently has a
two-story building, which was constructed in 2003
and totals 14,188 square feet. Advantages of the
site include good access to Interstate 8 from two

Senior center, rural fire will benefit from block
grant
The San Diego County Board of Supervisors held a
public hearing on the recommended 2007-08 annual
funding plan for Community Development Block
Grant, HOME Investment Partnerships, Emergency
Shelter Grant, and Housing Opportunities for
Persons with AIDS programs. The preliminary
hearing allocates $46,000 of CDBG funds for the
Campo Senior Center and $21,600 for the San Diego

Cargo container ordinance expected to supes April
18
For the most part, the county Planning
Commission’s March 9 adoption of ordinance
language on the use of cargo containers was
routine, as most of the issues had been settled at
already. One significant addition approved March 9

Descanso CERT training
Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)
training is now in progress at the Descanso
Library, under the direction of Stacy Magoffin of
the Mountain Empire CERT Teams. By training
citizens with basic disaster and rescue skills,
the citizens themselves are more likely to survive
a disaster, and they will be able to assist
