Campo Fire and
Rescue, SD Rural receive money for fire equipment
CAMPO — The Board of Supervisors approved $200,000 of trust fund
appropriations for capital improvement needs of fire agencies,
including $30,580 to Campo Fire and Rescue and $2,320 to the San
Diego Rural Fire Protection District.
The supervisors’ 5-0 vote on March 20 allocates the
Campo fire department money for rescue tools and the San Diego
Rural grant for fire hose.
The county has committed $200,000 in Community
Development Block Grants each year for needs of the fire service
and an additional $200,000 derived from the savings of refinancing
the county’s Otay prison, into a trust fund for fire agencies.
Although Community Development Block Grant funds are restricted to
eligible neighborhoods, the trust fund awards have no such
restriction.
Applications for such funding are reviewed by
volunteers from the county’s Task Force on Fire Funding and
Emergency Medical Services, who grade the applications and make
recommendations for the entire task force to approve. The task
force’s recommendations then go to the supervisors for approval.
The Campo Fire and Rescue grant will provide $30,580
toward the purchase of rescue tools for the fire department’s Type
I engine. Those tools will reduce the time required to extricate a
victim from a trapped vehicle.
The San Diego Rural award will allow the department to
purchase a new 2.5-inch fire hose, which will replace an
out-of-service fire hose.
