Supervisors approve
increase in fire mitigation fees
The San Diego County Board of Supervisors voted 5-0
March 21 to approve an increase in fire mitigation fees paid by
developers to fund the cost of fire department facilities
serving new developments.
Ordinance amendment could negatively impact wetlands
The San Diego County
Board of Supervisors approved changes to the county’s Resource
Protection Ordinance and the county’s Subdivision Ordinance. The
introduction and first reading of the ordinance amendments took
place Feb. 28, and the amendments returned to the supervisors
March 21 for a second reading and adoption. The changes will be
effective April 20.

April fools — A day for pranks
APRIL FOOL’S DAY, a time for pulling harmless pranks on
gullible victims, is universally popular. These hoaxes range
from subtle stunts pulled on unknowing victims by family and
friends to false stories being spread by media organizations in
print, on the air, and on the Internet. On this one day of the
year, everyone and anyone is considered fair game.
Local CERT participants graduate from disaster training
The CERT (Community Emergency Rescue Team) Training in
Descanso has produced twelve graduates who have passed a 9
course training session on disaster preparedness and disaster
response. CERT members are trained to help by applying basic
skills that are learned under the direction of trained
professionals.
ESL teachers needed in Descanso
The Descanso Branch of the San Diego County Library is
looking for English as a Second Language tutors to help ESL
students in conjunction with the Laubach Literary Council of San
Diego, and the L.E.A.R.N. Program of the San Diego County
Libraries.
Campo Fire and Rescue, SD Rural receive money for fire
equipment
The Board of Supervisors approved $200,000 of trust fund
appropriations for capital improvement needs of fire agencies,
including $30,580 to Campo Fire and Rescue and $2,320 to the San
Diego Rural Fire Protection District.
Student killed in early morning car crash
A sport utility vehicle crashed off a rural East County
byway Tuesday, killing one teenage boy and injuring another,
authorities reported.
CELC celebrates Spring Fling
The Creekside Early Learning Center’s Spring Fling 2007
was a huge success. The event, held on March 23, was organized
by Principal Moana Miller and CELC Parent/Teacher Association
President Brenda Holmes.
