A group of local teenagers sat in on the latest Alpine
Planning Group meeting, held Feb. 22, to show their support for
the construction of a skateboarding park in town. Nearly a dozen

The County of San
Diego’s Planning Commission recommended an ordinance on the use
of cargo containers for adoption, although amendments to the
staff-proposed language will result in a March 9 vote on the

for adoption.
Efforts continue to bring organic farmers market to Alpine
Many of us have been to Farmers Markets around San Diego
County, and have enjoyed the fresh fruits and vegetables that
are available at a relatively low cost, not to mention the
beautiful flowers that abound. There are also other items that
are often offered at Farmers Markets beside produce, such as
breads and other bakery items, as well hand crafted products.
Daylight savings comes early: Don’t forget to change your
clocks
The phrase, "spring forward; fall back" reminds us
every spring to set our clocks and timers forward to match
Daylight Saving Time. But this year is different. The phrase has
a whole new meaning because in 2007 the time change is three
weeks earlier.

A special fund raising event will be taking place this
weekend, on Sunday, March 11, at the Alpine Community Center: A
spaghetti dinner, in honor of local resident Larry Monette.

of ruly youth

Proposed ordinance changes sent to Board of Supervisors
The county’s Planning Commission has recommended several
changes to the county’s Subdivision Ordinance and to the
county’s Resource Protection Ordinance. In a 6-0 vote last
month, with Planning Commissioner John Riess abstaining,
planners sent the recommendations to the San Diego County Board
of Supervisors.
Mountain Empire members awarded FFA Degrees
Alumni Mountain Empire Future Farmers of America (FFA)
members Lindsey Tulloch and Staci White received the American
FFA Degree at the 79th National FFA Convention in Indianapolis,
Indiana. It is the highest Degree Awarded by the National FFA
organization.
Forgiven — but not forgotten
It was during Christmas Camp 2006, an annual youth event
at Christ the King Episcopal Church, that a member noticed
something peculiar. Large bits of blocks had been taken out of
the garden wall, leaving the sandy dirt falling over and a
jagged edge that most would find unusual in any garden,
landscaping plan.
