Patrol agents seize marijuana; saves lives
CBP Border Patrol Agents working at a Border Patrol
checkpoint in San Diego’s east county found over 1,300 pounds of
marijuana hidden behind household goods in a U-Haul truck this
morning.
GUHSD keeping an eye on students
At a special
presentation held last Thursday, April 26, members of the
Grossmont Union High School District board were given a
demonstration of a new surveillance system that has been
installed at all the of the districts 12 high school campuses.
GUHSD meeting could determine future of Alpine high school
The Grossmont Union High School District Board of
Trustees is scheduled to listen to the Bond Advisory
Commission’s reports, and it is rumored that they will vote on
the BAC’s recommendations at the upcoming May 10 board meeting.
This is expected to be a pivotal juncture in the whole
Proposition H Bond and Alpine High School issue, and how the
monies will be used.
Congressman Filner pledges to help halt Blackwater USA
Congressman Bob Filner pledged to help block Blackwater
USA’s plans to build a private military-style training camp in
Potrero. Concerned citizens of Potrero met with Filner recently
to ask his help to prevent Blackwater from opening a facility
that would include firing ranges, a vehicular training track,
ship simulation, and an urban-warfare training center on land
surrounded by federally protected National Forest and Bureau of
Land Management property

event
Sacred Sky, Sacred Earth offered a mystic experience
that fed the senses and made one feel a true part of this world.
With the efforts of Peter Terezekis and Lux Boreal, a group of
artistic performance dancers who moved in eurhythmic motion to
the floating tones set by Steven Garcia and directed by Allyson
Green, the director of dance at UCSD, the evening was pure
magic.

ALFA bookstore to close in June
What started in October 2005 as a three-day book sale by
the Alpine Library Friends Association (ALFA), and has become
East County’s largest Used Book Store, will now need to find a
new location or close since receiving a notice to vacate.
