Lawsuits blame SDG&E lines for recent fires  
     Two lawsuits filed recently against San Diego Gas and Electric, blaming the utility for the Rice Canyon and Witch fires, could add more fuel to arguments against the proposed Sunrise Powerlink project, which could traverse large portions of the county’s most fire-prone areas.  

AUSD board discusses anti-discrimination bill     
     At the most recent Alpine Union School District board meeting, the newly passed anti-discrimination law, SB 777 was discussed in detail. The new Senate Bill 777 is a clarified anti-discrimination bill that includes definitions of sub-groups that cannot be discriminated against in schools.
 

Supervisors authorize erosion control contract  
     In an effort to control potential flood and erosion hazards caused by the October 2007 fires, the County of San Diego will issue a contract to GeoSyntec Consultants to identify hazards and provide protective measures. A 4-0 San Diego County Board of Supervisors vote authorized the appropriations of $2,000,000 into the general fund of the county's Department of Public Works for erosion control.   

Woman tells about finding body near Buckman Springs
"Never in my wildest thoughts (did I think) that I would find a murder victim... It took me awhile to realize what I was looking at." That's what Angelica Cook, a former U.S. Forest Service firefighter, told a judge on Tuesday about her unpleasant discovery of the body of Brittany Hart in a trash can near a dirt road close to the exit of Buckman Springs Road off Interstate 8 on June 15.

Benefit concert planned for Potrero fire victim and family  
Richard Varshock’s MySpace profile reveals a teenage boy, handsome, engaging, outgoing. Richard last logged into MySpace on Sunday, Oct. 21. By noon that day, he was fighting for his life, pinned to the ground behind a rock outcropping shielded by fire fighters, his flaming Potrero home at the trigger point of California’s worst ever firestorm.

BOS regulates on-street vehicle sales
The San Diego County Board of Supervisors took the first steps toward regulating vehicles with "for sale" signs parked on county roads and commercial vehicles parked in residential areas on county roads.
