Potrero planning
group recall election proceeds despite fires
Ballots for the recall election of five Potrero Planning
Group members will be mailed out by Nov. 13. Voters will be
asked whether to remove planners Gordon Hammers, Jerry Johnson,
Mary Johnson, Thell Fowler, and Janet Wright from office.
BOS waives permit fees to rebuild fire-damaged structures
Residents and property owners whose homes and other
structures were destroyed in the October 2007 fires will be
exempt from plan check review and building permit fees when they
rebuild.
Out of the ashes East County begins to rebuild
As the last remaining hotspots are finally doused or
buried, victims of the Harris Fire — which ripped a swath from
Potrero to Jamul — are now coming to the realization that they
may need immediate, long-term assistance.
Ex-deputy to be sentenced Nov. 27 for killing wife in
Alpine home
A former sheriff’s deputy from Alpine will be sentenced
Nov. 27 for killing his wife. Lowell “Sam” Bruce, 41, was to
have been sentenced Oct. 24, but the El Cajon Superior
Courthouse was closed because of the wildfires throughout San
Diego County.
Alpine architect honored at ranch park
Some 50 years ago, Alpine was a quiet, bucolic, little
mountain village. Today it is a busy, active and ever growing
community, still unincorporated, but a delightful place to live.
One man, the late Auren Pierce, is responsible for that change.
