Volunteers needed for clearing
     ALPINE — Greater Alpine Fire Safe Council has a project planned for this Saturday, Nov. 10. From 8 a.m. until about 4 p.m. volunteers and USFS hand crews are going to work together to create defensible space on a demonstration home that borders the Cleveland National Forest.
     GAFSC is looking for 10 to 12 able-bodied folks who would be willing to drag brush in exchange for a delicious barbecued lunch. You don’t have to work the entire timeframe, and you needn’t come up with the whole gang to be helpful.

Campo Minutemen clean-up
the Back Country

     CAMPO — Join the Campo Minutemen for a Highway clean up and border watch on Saturday, Nov. 10, beginning at 9 a.m.
     Meet at the corner of Oak and Buckman Springs Road. Tongs, bags and reflector vests will be provided, and gloves are recommended.

Senior Health Fair
     ALPINE — ECAN and Community Partners will be holding a Senior Health Fair in Pine Valley the fair will be held on Saturday, Nov. 10, at 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Pine Valley Club House, 28890 Old Hwy. 80.
     Flue Shots will be available for $16, and those with medicare not handled by an HMO will be free. Please contact Jerry Barber at 445-9140 for more information.

Second annual MECAC Holiday Faire
     PINE VALLEY — The Mountain Empire Creative Arts Council invited all artists to the second annual MECAC Holiday Faire, on Tuesday, Nov. 27, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Pine Valley Club House.
     Maximum of 20 artists, with six spaces reserved for artists who just want to show and not sell. Spaces are 4’ X 4’ for $10.
     All proceeds from the space fees and drawing go towards supporting MECAC activities including our Summer Youth Art Program.

Holiday home tour
     ALPINE — The Alpine Woman’s Club will hold its Third Annual Holiday Home Tour on Sunday, Dec. 2 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
     Visitors will have an opportunity to stroll through four stunning country estates.
     Tickets for the tour are $25 and can be purchased at the Woman’s Club, 2156 Alpine Blvd., on Saturdays, Nov. 24 and Dec.1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and on Dec. 2 starting at 10 a.m. You can also order tickets by mailing a check to Alpine Woman’s Club P.O. Box 231, Alpine, CA 91903.

Nature walk at Wright’s Field
     ALPINE — Wildlife biologist Michael Klein will be hosting a nature walk in Wright’s Field on Saturday, Nov. 10 beginning at 9 a.m.
     Hikers will learn about the interesting interactions of plants and animals found there and how some of them survive during these very dry years.
     Meet in the front parking lot of Joan Mac Queen Middle School. Please bring sunscreen and water.

Veterans Day ceremony at Alpine Cemetery
     ALPINE — The Alpine Bert Fuller VFW Post 9578 will host a Veterans Day ceremony on Sunday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. at the Alpine Cemetery, 2495 W. Victoria Dr. Anyone who would like to come and honor veterans or the troops is invited to take part.

Support the troops
     ALPINE — Help send support to our troops by taking part in a Southern Chicken Fried Steak Dinner, at the Alpine Community Center on Nov. 15.
     After dinner, entertainment will be provided by the Honky Tonk Kings, and a raffle along with a 50/50 drawing.
     Tickets are $15 per person with an item to send to the troops. Tickets are available at the Alpine Community Center, 1830 Alpine Blvd, Alpine and at the Descanso Junction Restaurant, 8306 Hwy 79 in Descanso.

25th anniversary celebration
     ALPINE — Good Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church will be holding its 25th Anniversary Celebration Dinner on Sunday, Nov. 18. The public is invited to join in this special celebration in Fuller Hall at 12 p.m., directly following worship service.

Ramona resident will talk about Holocaust
     JULIAN — On Sunday, Nov. 18 at 1 p.m., the Julian Branch of the San Diego County Library, 1850 Highway 78, Julian, will host Ramona resident Erwin Levy, who will present a talk entitled, “Eyewitness to the Holocaust.”
     In June 1939 at age 15 Levy escaped Germany as part of the Kindertransport to England. He will share his personal account of the period leading up to the Holocaust and the war to defeat to Nazis.
     Following the talk, the afternoon program features Alexander Gourevitch is one of the world’s top klezmer clarinetists.

Third annual fall tennis classic
     ALPINE — The Alpine Community Center will host the third annual Fall Tennis Classic. The adult doubles event will be held Nov. 30 through Dec. 2.
     The competition format will be Ladies, and Mixed-doubles. The deadline to register is Nov. 23.
