GUHSD board accepts driver’s ed resolution  
Grossmont Union High School District board honors outgoing Citizen’s Bond Oversight Committee members, hears update on Proposition H bond and supports local man’s resolution to reinstate driver’s education in schools.  

Blackwater in hot water as citizens rally in Potrero  
“Mercenaries are dangerous to American democracy,” Congressman Bob Filner (D-San Diego) said at a rally held in Potrero on Sunday, Oct. 7. “There will not be a Blackwater camp in Potrero,” he pledged, eliciting applause and cheers from the crowd. 

Supervisors use Forest Reserve payments for trails
A Federal law which distributes logging tax revenue for local schools and roads will provide $144,000 to the county this year, and on Sept. 25 the Board of Supervisors voted to allocate $21,600 of that money for acquisition of trail easements.   

Ex-Crest resident, 81, gets 15-years-to-life
After hearing from three angry women who said an elderly Crest man molested them years ago, a judge sentenced Theodore Drach, 81, to 15-years-to-life in state prison on Monday.  

Things get hot and spicy at 6th annual Kiwanis chili cook-off
On Saturday, Oct. 6, after the Viejas Days Parade, Alpine residents headed down to the Alpine Community Park for a sizzling finish to the day’s festivities with the 2008 Kiwanis Chili Cook-off. At the park several brightly decorated booths from vendors and Alpiners were set up ready to hand out tastes of their special recipes for homemade chili. 
 
CBOC seeking new members  
The Grossmont Union High School District is seeking applications to fill a vacancy within the eleven-member Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee (CBOC). The CBOC oversees the implementation of Proposition H, the $274 million general obligation bond measure passed in March 2004.
