The Great
Train Robbery
Hundreds of
visitors, and dozens of actors gathered at the Pacific Southwest
Railway Museum in Campo last weekend for the dress rehearsal of
The Great Train Robbery, “Death rides the Stage” featuring the
Back Country Players. Performers, dressed in glamorous gowns or
outlaw outfits filled the train, to rehearse for the big night
on Oct. 13. Seeing as the actual event has been sold out, this
rehearsal ride was opened up to the public to take part. Members
from local groups The Hole in the Wall Gang, Winchester Widows,
Hooters with Shooters and others, were in full character for the
event, complete with a wailing widow, the marshal’s wife,
Pinkerton boys on board, and of course the outlaws, who rode up
to the train on horseback to claim a money box. Loud firing
blanks, exploding blood packs and realistic outfits set the
stage for a step back in time to the old west for everyone on
board.
