Campaigns keep contenders away from local duties
Of the seven officials representing San Diego County
residents in the House and Senate, all but one have absentee
rates in the low single digits. Local Congressman Duncan Hunter
(R-Alpine) however, has missed 28.8 percent of all votes cast in
the 110th Congress, garnering the fifth highest absentee rate
among the 435 members in the House of Representatives.

Thousands of people from throughout North America
converged at Sycuan Reservation over the weekend for the 18th
annual Traditional Gathering and Annual Pow Wow.
BP agent stabbed in smuggling attempt
Around 11:50 a.m., on Tuesday Sept. 4, CBP Border Patrol
agents working in San Diego’s East County were given the vehicle
description of a 2008 Chevrolet Impala whose occupants appeared
to be loading objects into the trunk of the car near Tierra Del
Sol, off of State Route 94.
Downpour didn’t dampen spirits at 70th annual celebration
The Annual Descanso Deep Pit Barbeque held at Our Lady
of Light was a huge success this Labor Day Weekend persevering
through thunderstorms, and surviving several downpours during
the set-up process.
Private road issue delays PC action on boutique wineries
The county's Planning Commission heard a proposed zoning
ordinance amendment that would allow boutique wineries to
operate without use permits, however concerns over wineries
accessed by private roads prevented a recommendation at the
Sept. 7 meeting.
BCLT receives grant from the SD Foundation
The Back Country Land Trust is pleased to announce being
awarded $30,000 from The San Diego Foundation Environmental Work
Group.
